Hi all,

I've been reading up on cashback credit cards to try and make the most of all of the money I'll be shelling out on my wedding in the next few months (all pre-saved, don't worry :)).

One of Martin's tips for the maximising cashback is to use a joint card:
"Those in trusting relationships can max the gain. For example Janet applies making John 2nd cardholder so both get the intro 5% cashback. John applies, doing the same, to bag another three months 5%..."

Capital One and Amex both have a maximum of £100 cashback available during their promo 5% periods...

But does anyone know whether for joint card accounts both card holders can earn up to £100 cashback, or if both cards just contribute to the same £100 cashback? It'd be nice if both my fiancee and I could both get £100 cashback (but I suspect it's probably not the case).

Thanks!

no just thing as joint credit cards accounts

there is the primary holder and the secondary holder; and only cash back allowance

Ok, sorry for the incorrect terminology, but you got the gist.

Do you mean there's only one cash back allowance? And I guess therefore one credit limit etc? I.e. all spending goes into the same credit account, in my name?

So the only advantage of having a 2nd card holder would be to make it easier to spend more (and potentially earn more cash back)? Rather than earning twice the cash back?

    Yes, that's correct.

You could apply for the card as separate applications and if both successful will get £100 subject to spending.

    Yes, that's correct.

To get the full £100 cashback, you'd need to spend £2k in 3 months. This is quite a lot to spend by yourself in that space of time, unless you had anything big planned, which is what makes the 2nd card holder handy.

Given that you'll have a lot of large expenses coming up for your wedding, it's probably not so beneficial.

You'd probably be better each applying for a card(s), and spending £2k on each card.

Thanks all. That's not what I'd hoped, but it was what I'd suspected.

    Thanks for confirming.
