new bathroom, how much ?

Hi guys,

So we are getting a new bathroom fitted. It is an average bathroom, 2m X 2m. We want to get rid of all the old stuff (toilet, bath, sink, floor and wall tiles). We have bought all the stuff, so are just charging for labour. How much should I expect to pay ?

Depends on several factors. Will all the furniture be in the same place? Are you having the floor tiled and if so what condition and type of substrait is it? (ie concrete floor/ wooden floorboards). What type and size of tile have you got and is ther a boarder or inserts?
As a rough idea £2-2.5k should cover an average bathroom.
The more detail you give including location the better the advice.
    Good luck.

We're getting the same thing done, and have had quotes for £2800 and £2500 so far.

    This is for:
    new bathroom suite (we supply)
    install towel radiator (we supply)
tiling 2 walls (we supply tiles)
    vinyl floor (they supply)
    3 spotlights (they supply)
    mirror with light above
    skimming ceiling
putting light switch/shower switch outside bathroom

To be honest, as it's such a small bathroom, we think the quotes seem rather steep, so we're now thinking of doing it ourselves!!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • It's difficult to judge isn't it. We did our bathroom in our old house, but have not long ago moved into a new place. We have had to get the double glazing done recently as the windows were in a right state, but the next job is the bathroom. Last time we decided to do it ourselves to save abit of money, but wished we hadn't. Going to get the professionals in this time, but just need to save the money first!

Our bathroom is a similar size and we've been quoted anything from £1,600 to £3k by local fitters for fitting. We're in the midlands.

In the south you'd easily pay £3K upwards, in the north, £10, and they pay you. Location matters, a lot.

My bathroom is a similar size ... Just had a quote for:

Removing old wall tiles and re-tiling
Removing carpet and laying new floor tiles
Removing old bathroom suite and installing new sink and toilet
Removing bath and installing extended shower cubicle and new shower
Remove old radiator and install new heated towel rail
Fitting halogen lights into the ceiling.

All items will be supplied by me. The quote was £750 labour.

I think you should get another couple of quotes. Either he's storing up a host of extras for you or he doesn't understand the question. Thats alarmingly low for the scope of work. How long did he say it would take him?

Small doesn't matter. Theres the same amount of plumbing to do, theres the same sized suite to fit. Room still has four corners a window and a door to tile around/to. Small can be more time consuming as you can't get more than one guy working in there at one time.

That one I might be tempted to believe if you are supplying ALL the materials down to the very last screw.
