If you cant work and claim incapasity, then how would you be able to do the job of carer?

Carers allowance is effectively a wage for someone who cares for a living.

    You cant have both.
  • It will not affect your partner's DLA. It will replace your IB/ESA. As a household you may or may not be better off. An online benefit checker such as Turn2Us may be able to give you a better idea.

The fact that someone receives another benefit does not stop them from claiming carer's allowance. If you are entitled it might be a case that you receive a notice saying that you have an underlying entitlement to carer's allowance but as the benefit you are currently receiving is at a higher rate and it cannot be paid at the same time as carer's allowance you will continue with your current benefit. The fact that you have an underlying entitlement to carers benefit means that you are treated as though you actually receive it.

if you live with your partner, then i dont understand how they get income related JSA?
you wouls both need to be on the same claim, receiving Incapacity benefit, with an inxome support top up for your partner.

the carers allowance would be deducrwd from your incapacity benefit and a carers premium would be added
