issue relating to extension of travel insurance outside Europe

I currently have an annual silver policy with Insure & Go for Europe only. It is valid until February 2013. I have made no claims. It is possible that I might book a trip to somewhere outside of Europe (eg. Morocco) to go in March 2013. Insure & Go has said that I would have to upgrade my current policy to a world one as soon as I made the booking and not when I was due to renew in February. The only possible payout before February would be a complete cancellation if i became ill. The amount spent on the basic cost of the trip would not be more than many European trips (around £1000)
This means that I would in effect be paying twice over (an upgrade and then a renewal). Why is this?

Yes you need to upgrade your policy now, to get the cancellation cover for the booked trip. Do check to see whether it would be cheaper just to buy a new policy with world cover. This may be cheaper than what they charge for an upgrade.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
