Start by calling your local social services department (adult care) who can put you in touch with local services. The alternative is to hire a carer privately.0

personally i`d start by staying at home till the family can go as well !
why not a few days in a caravan in the uk or simlar?0 -
I'd start by looking around at friends, acquaintances and extended family.
One of my siblings is currently in the USA with a friend who wanted to go and visit their son, but didn't want to travel alone. I don't know what they've each paid, but I'm guessing that the friend has at least contributed to the air fare!
I couldn't contemplate going away with a near stranger.
Mind you, if it was someone I wasn't used to spending much time with, I'd definitely want to do at least a day out, just the two of us, before broaching the possibility of an overseas trip.
Another question though is what sort of trip you want to do and what kind of support you think you'll need. There are all sorts of packages available which are OK for single people to go on, with reps who will check everyone is OK.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
You might be able to find someone through your local CVS0

Hi, sorry you are having problems.....I would try Social Services and see if they can help you. Take no notice of some people on these boards. If you want to go, then go....you probably deserve a break. Enjoy!:D0

When I approached a private care company about this last year I was told I'd have to pay the carers flight, accommodation, wages and food and drinks/expenses.0

I think there are a few questions that you need to ask yourself before you wil find a travelling companion:
1) what are you willing to pay towards your companion's trip? (nothing, after all they get to go too; everything, they will be there working; something in between)
2) are you expecting to stay in a hostel or a 5* hotel? Are you expecting to share a room with the companion or have spearate rooms?
3)what sort of care do you need - do you just need somebody with you so you don't have a panic attack in a strange place? or do you need more specialist care?
4) where are you planning to go? do you need a companion that speaks a language for instance?
5) how long are you planning to go for? you may find a companion easier for a few days midweek than a weekend, or vice versa!
Seriously, asking here will get you a range of responses from "talk to social services" or "contact a private company & be prepared to pay" to a private message saying "I'll come if you are paying!"
You need to figure out whether you are looking to find a friend (people can help with ideas of where you may be able to make friends) or a professional (people can help you find a professional)0 -
I have sent you a pm. Hope you get your holiday
