washer dryer acting up, what's best course

Hi,

I purchased a washer dryer new on the 28th. Only recently gotten it going. After the initial cycle with no load that the instructions told me to perform, it seemed pretty noisy in operation. After a few cycles it has become clear there is a problem.

On the spin cycle, the drum seems to rock back and forth and there is a knocking sound, along with much vibration. The feet are stable, there are no pipes knocking at the back. I don't think the bearings are gone as there is no up-down motion when I push the drum. The noise only occurs when the drum starts to accelerate.

According to the terms and conditions of the retailer, I should contact the manufacturer since it's been more than 7 days since the fault emerged. Seems a bit restrictive given I only got it running less than a week ago due to a problem with my drainage, but I guess they're protecting their interests, not mine.

I just read this where the person describes similar symptoms to mine. Thought of opening the machine up and seeing if I can see any similar issue. But would this void the warranty? Does the engineer have ways of knowing I've opened it? I don't see any seal.

It's an Indesit--are they good when it comes to honoring a warranty in a timely fashion?

Start with the obvious first - have you taken out the 'transportation' bolts/fixings?
