Tax Credits - Help me please.

Well after a number of threads, I thought that I had worked out tax credits and would be getting some backpay (so to speak)

I havent (I just don't know what I am doing!)

Ok so I called tax credits today and they say that they owe me £150 odd from last year.

My income figure was set at £25K last year, but turned out to be £14993. So I thought okay I will get Tax Credits and Working Tax Credits on the difference, paid now, the advisor agreed with me.

But it seems not as I was only getting £20 per week during the last year and that is not what someone that earns 14993 gets.

So which rules have I been missing, I know that I will have missed something, just would like to know what ...

Thanks in advance guys:mad:

You aren't giving enough information in your posts for anyone to help you.

When you asked the other day I asked you what your 10/11 income was. Are you on a couple claim? if so, what is your total household income for 10/11?

Also, you posted on another thread about your understanding of how the rules work. I don't think you understand correctly, so I explained it all to you.

  • IQ - Yes you are correct, I understood one section, but seems I have now slipped up on something else. You did help me understand the OP in that threads situation, maybe it's just my own im at a loss with.

Okay so we are a joint claim. I am the only earner currently as partner is self employed and made a loss.

    10/11 - £23 K
11/12 - £14993K (due to the loss, TC agreed this was correct how we worked it out)
    12/13 - Expected 22K

    Thanks again!

So your 11/12 should be calculated based on 14993. Have you received the final award notice for 11/12 showing the 14993 figure?

  • IQ -No not yet as I only told them 2 days ago.

But I called them this afternoon to see what was happening, yes I am jumping the gun again! They said to me that they owe me £150.00, but as you can probably tell something is not adding up there.

Do you think it's just because the award has not been fully processed yet?

:-) Thank you very much for your help!

There is no way of knowing, could be numerous reasons why.

You are best waiting for the finalised award notice, checking the details and then posting here the figures in the calculation section so we can see how they calculated it.

I do owe them a little, well quite a lot, lets hope it's gone to paying that back, it's been 4 years since they told me I owed them and they haven't been in touch since I sent them my offer to pay X back weekly.

I always like to know whats what and it's driving me mad :-(

    Thanks again.

It may that is why, they have taken some for the overpayment. You won't know until you see it.

I don't work for HMRC and I am not an accountant. But even if I was I wouldn't say :)
