Cancel/ replace a new-ish credit card

Hi all,
I'd really appreciate some advice regarding a card I applied for in May.
We got ourselves a Barclaycard for the 0% for 22 months balance transfer offer. We had a small balance on our current card, but unfortunately we had to pay quite an expensive bill for a physiotherapy programme. We figured that instead of cleaning out our savings, we'd pay on our existing credit card, then transfer it to a 0% card, and have it all paid off in a few months. But needless to say it wasn't that easy, the physiotherapy didn't go as well as hoped, cost a little more than initially estimated but crucially, overran by 6 weeks.
So with the last transaction all completed and showing on my balance on tuesday, I went to do the balance transfer yesterday, just to find I've missed the 0% introductory offer by 4 days (finding this out was a NIGHTMARE, Barclays customer service was a total farce, by far the worst company I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with). Fair enough, its my oversight, limit was 60 days after application, not the "introductory offers valid for 3 months" that I'd read elsewhere (this was for purchasing rate?).
So I now have a Barclaycard that I have not used/ will never use, as I've missed the beneficial rate, I don't need to make any purchases, and basically I have no desire to move my custom to a company so painful to deal with. :rotfl:
So my questions are, can I just cancel a 2 month old account? And if so, after it's all closed/ dead/ buried/ gone, I would obviously still like to switch the balance to a 0% card to pay the bulk of it off as quickly as possible. Would I be penalised on my credit history if I attempted to apply for another 0%BT card so soon after this one?
Thanks for reading all my waffling
