Do I need a land line?

Hello,
We are due to move house in the next ten days and there is no usable phone line, so we will have to pay BT £130 for installation. At our current house we have BT line rental and calls, and Plusnet for internet. However, I am now wondering whether the BT line is necessary at all as there is cable available at the address. I have 300 minutes on my mobile package each month which I don't use as I am deaf, and I hardly ever make phone calls other than via the RNID's Typetalk service. My husband doesn't use the phone that much either - according to the bill it's 10 hours of usage over three months, which would be covered by my mobile minutes. Can anyone throw any light on our situation? Thanks for your help.

If there is a Virgin Media cable point, you can get Broadband alone, but there will not be any discounts available for a single service. There probably will be a VM landline point too (the cable provides both) but you do not have to activate this if you do not require it.0

if you have cable you dont need a landline . you can also make your calls via the internet ."Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0

I'd shop around if I were you. Sky won't charge you £130 for a phone line. Have you checked how good the mobile signel is in the new house before deciding finally ?I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
£130 is the BT rack rate but no-one has to pay it, they always have various offers on, depending what bundle you take. Plusnet (for example) will charge around £50 to install or reconnect a line).
Or go with VM cable-but their telephony is extremely expensive if you do take the phone option. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
