Hi
My dad called last night in a panic as all his picture files have disappered and his laptop was giving all sorts of messages.
Lenovo laptop running windows 7 ( unsure o model but its an i3 processor bought from comet last year)
I went round and his windows profile wasnt loading , it was creating a temporary log in , hence messgaes such as welcome to avast etc.
A restore to a week ago fixed this problem but still all his picture files were not showing.
I ran malware bytes which found nothing, tried the unhide folders option and software as on bleeping computer.
I tried recuva to get pictures back but it couldnt ind them.
Any further suggestions welcome.
PS. Thankfully most of the piccies were on external hd as backup however not all.

Have you tried a simple search of the hard drive? Open Windows Explorer (Win key + E) and, assuming the 'missing' files are photos, type .jpg (don't forget the leading dot) into the 'search computer' box (top right)How do I add a signature?0

Recuva is not all that good in my experience. Try RecoverMyfiles (http://www.recovermyfiles.com) - it's very very good but you do have to pay for it if you want to recover the files. But you get a preview of what it's found, so you'll know whether it's worth the hassle.0

as someone whos use recuva and recovermyfiles and a few other pay for programs of which file scavenger is the best, i found recuva very good and got more files than recovermyfiles did, on a 1.5tb drive and over 1million files which was going faulty and was replaced due to the warranty.
At the time i was looking for a recovery in place recovery which none of them did.
after a having a quick look on the link provided i see filescavenger is $20 cheaper than recovermyfiles, and also portable.0
