Overseas Credit Card Debt

in Credit cards
Greetings
Ive recently moved to the UK permanently from the Land of Oz.
I did leave behind in my dash for the lifestlye of London a couple of Credit Cards with a bit of debt on them.
I make the usual monthly repayments via bank transfers (stupid I know) as
a. Im only paying interest and
b.its costing me 10 quid a month on the transfer
As ive only been here a short time (7 months) and have been temping on and off since arriving, I dont have a solid working history.
Although earning a livable salary Im worried about applying for a credit card as at Christmas times was knocked back a phone contract with Vodafone.
Ideally I would love to have a UK credit card and wipe out the Aus ones.
So, my 2 questions to all of you is this
1. When applying for a credit card, can I request a balance transfer to overseas credit cards?
Im aware that the powers to be would be aware that I have credit cards overseas but will they allow an overseas transfer?
2. In my quest to clear my debt, can my Vodafone rejection play any part in the credit card application?
All replies treated with happy dog salivating syndrome!

If you can get an Egg card, they allow you to BT to your current account, and you could then pay off the credit cards.2. In my quest to clear my debt, can my Vodafone rejection play any part in the credit card application?
A search will show up on your credit report, but it won't show if you were decline or not.
To be honest, until you can get a permanant job, companies will see you as a risk as you have no guaranteed income so you will probably find it hard to get a decent offer or credit limit.
Perhaps try for a card such with Capital One, they will only give you a £200 limit and a sky high interest rate, but provided you use it sparingly and pay it off in full every month it should help you build up a credit history which will stand you in good stead when you go for a decent card.0
