hi folks,
can anyone give me any idea of the effectivness of these, maybe as a % gas bill saving. i made and fitted one for a bedroom whilst decorating and am thinking of doing the lot if someone talks me into it.
i know they can only be a good thing, but how good?

Any answer you get will most likely be a guess as most properties will have different thermal gradients to cope with and hence heating demand.
I can tell you i put these behind all the rads on the external walls and we all noticed a difference in the ambient room temperature immediately. i.e. The rooms reached the thermostat set temperature quicker.
That would relate to some cash saving but difficult to quantify. I will do the remaining rads in the near future
as it definately made our place more comfortable.
Just found this;
http://www.switched-on.org/Solutions/Html/Radiators.htm
which claims a reduction of 5% to 18% heat loss through the walls for rad panels.
This site states a heat loss of 35% through the walls
http://www.wyreforestdc.gov.uk/tmbc/eneffweb.htm
so if your annual bill for heat was say £500 then 35% is
£175 and 30% is £150 meaning a 5% reduction equates to a £25 saving.
Equally an 18% reduction would equate to £90 and that would be very nice0 -
thanks,
a "noticable improvement" sells it for me. it,s allmost a shame i've turned the heating off for the summer!!Please note, we've had to remove your signature because it was sh*te!0 -
