Pet Insurance - Worth it?

So, I have two dogs. One an 18 month old Bichon Frise pedigree and another an approx 10 year old mixed breed. Both have no conditions they are being treated for. Was wondering those of you with pets which of the vast number of insurers would you reccomend? I am looking for lifetime cover for both and have no idea where to start! Many thanks

I currently have my dog (18 month old Cairn Terrier) insured with Argos Platinum policy.
We have had dogs for years and this is the 1st one we decided to insure as he seems to have a love of eating unsuitable things. The last straw was when he swallowed an earring directly from my ear!
We had a claim about a year ago for a badly cut paw and the insurer paid without question.
The renewal did increase from about £10 p/m to £17 p/m but I was allowed to purchase a new policy online for about £10 p/m (excluding the 1st 14 days and any pre existing conditions).
Check the comparison sites & insurers directly but don't just go for the cheapest - you need to check the cover.
Have a look here

You can also look here to see how "Which" scores the policy.

You can probably find affordable cover for the Bichon but the other dog might be more expensive due to his age - many companies will charge a lot more for a dog over 7 years old. However many offer a discount if you insure more than 1 pet.
Also be aware of the excess fee. Whilst a higher excess does decrease the initial premium, make sure that it is one that you can afford to pay.
You'll have to do a bit of searching around but I'm sure you will find something suitable fot both of them.0
