Are you using outgoing email scanning software? If so, try disabling it (usually in your anti-virus software). A sympton of this is an email containing a large attachment appears not to have been sent, but actually has. Can you check whether the recipient has received it or not? Is the size within their limits?

A lot of ISP's have size limitations for email.

Try zipping the file to floppy disk and then email the splits.

You can upload it to https://www.mytempdir.com and send the resultant link to your recipient(s)

I would never recommend uploading a file to a site that requires your or your friends email address. As by doing so you are probably agreeing to be sent spam and likewise by downloading, they will be agreeing to be sent spam.

Much better to upload a file to a site whereby you can send your friends a link in a similar vein to imageshack ie: http://www.fastdump.net/ or http://www.hostmyfile.co.uk/

Or if you want to rely upon breaking a file into 'chunk's then theres a simpler solution than writing it to disk. Which is HJSplit: http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/ point it at the file, select the kb\MB size and press the go button. You end up with several files of the size you selected which you can send to you friend, along with a link to the program which will put the files back together again.

It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.
  • Set up a free acount with !!!!!!. You can out all kinds of files on there and then make the files of your choosing public by putting them in your "public box". Send the link to your public box to your friend and you are all done

    Hi,
Hoping one of you techies can help me out here. Having owned a sony handycam for the last two and a half years I yesterday decided to see if I could use the Picture Package software to convert some of the tape to a video file to send to my mother-in-law. The result was a really lovely little two minute film of my two young boys playing and set to music. Unfortunately it is a HUGE file (23 mb+)!
It tried to e-mail as an attachment but too big. Tried to upload to snapfish but mpegs are not recognised. Had a look at hostmyfile as suggested above but there is a 20mb limit.
I have no idea how to make the file a bit smaller (don't really want to change it as it is so lovely it made me cry) and don't really want to put it in a public domain as they are small boys and I don't want just anyone looking at it.
Is there a site like hostmyfile which I can use with a bigger file, or does anyone know how I could make it under 20mb so that I can use this site?

Many thanks and sorry for the ramble! All help appreciated
