I quit my job BUT

I quit my job yesterday and about an hour after quitting the owner sent me a text message saying that if i didn't go back to the depot they would not pay me any money.
the manager agreed that i could leave on the 13th of July 2012
To day i sent him a text saying that i am legally entitled to any money i have earned and that i would seek legal advise
The owners reply was "You need to read your Contract, I am legally Entitled to deduct monies for damage and failure to complete notice period"
I have to put upto £500 towards any damage caused to my if i damaged it but i have not damaged any vehicle.
My reply was that my leave date had been agreed as the 13th and that i have not damaged any vans.
His reply was " You have damaged your van and my notice was for the 20th that would be 4 weeks "
So i texted back " My agreed day was the 13th and which van would this be as i have not damaged any van "
Am i right in thinking that they could only keep 1 weeks pay and they should pay me my 2 weeks in hand and vehicle excess.
does anyone have any advise on how to sort this matter.
many thanks a

but i have still worked 2 weeks of the notice so they should only be able to deduct 2 weeks so i should still get 1 week plus my vehicle damage excess0

f your notice period is 4 weeks and you do not work the full four weeks you do not get paid for your notice periodbut i have still worked 2 weeks of the notice so they should only be able to deduct 2 weeks so i should still get 1 week plus my vehicle damage excess
why are you not working till your agreed date of the 13th ? do you have this in writig and if not why can you not work till the 20th ?

I get the feeling that we aren't getting the whole story here. As others have asked... why did you leave before the date you say you should have left? Have you read your contract? Do you know what it says? You claim you didn't damage the vehicle - did you insist on a vehicle inspection before you left to prove you didn't?0 -

Because i HATED the job and last my van was a rental and was already damaged before i got it and the head of transport had looked over it that week and i had made sure she marked all the damage but i went back yesterday and i had a different van all i did with that 1 was reverse it without damaging it but all i want is what i am owed thats all0 -

Excellent. So what you mean is that you flounced out on the spot because you felt like not working your notice, and now you don't know whether your contract actually says what the employer claims it does or not (since you haven't answered the question) and you can't prove a vehicle wasn't damaged because there was no inspection of the vehicle before you flounced out.
It doesn't matter whether you hated the job or not - if the tables were turned you would have expected the employer to honour the notice period, but you didn't think that applied to you too.
I don't know whether a contractual condition that your forfeit your notice pay if you fail to work your notice is legally enforceable or not, but you may be on very sticky ground if there is damage to a vehicle because you can't prove you didn't do if you didn't get a final inspection. Perhaps someone else will know whether such a clause is enforceable. But it might have been wise to have thought of this before you upped and left. Surely you could have completed your notice - it wasn't all that long.0 -

So you left because you hated the job but you still left before the date you agreed to. You have really mucked it up havent you. What are you going to do for work now ? You got any plans ?0 -
