I think the company should be spending more than £56k a year on PR staff...
Surely if he was any good at PR he would use his skills on Charlie for a pay rise.
I see the vans about a lot, the valets and mechanics do a great job as they always look spotless.
I love their number plates as well.0 -

Yep, I'd love it if my suppliers raised their rates enough to cover the cost of personalised number plates! I wonder if they also have monogrammed underwear?0 -
I have applied for a job there (twice) and have not been shortlisted but to be fair they are really bad payers for accounts work so maybe it was a blessing0

By concealing the age of the vans, the personal plates may actually be a saving over replacing the vans more frequently. This quite often happens with coach companies as they like their coaches to look up-to-date.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

So is the company providing the vans on top of the plumbers' £100k - £150k salaries? And they're worrying about scrimping to run their vans an extra year or two? They could scrap the van and buy a new one every year for less than they're paying in employers' NI contributions alone.0 -

But that would be the cost of lots of new vans coming out of the profits. If you're in a successful business you don't spend money you don't have to.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

I had very mixed feelings about this show.
On the one hand I fully applaud the idea that employees should be made to realise that there isn't a magic pot, which means that the money for payrises has to come from somewhere - and if payrises are to be given then a cost saving / increase in sales has to also happen. I also fully agree that employees should be empowered to help move the company forward.
On the other hand, it appeared that the massive pay differentials at Pimlico Plumbers were entirely Charlie's doing as he had previously awarded pay increases on what appeared to be a completely arbitrary basis. Given this I wasn't entirely comfortable with him sitting back and expecting his employees to sort out a mess of his making. To be frank, that should be what he earns the big bucks for!
Still, they all seemed happy in the end, so I suppose all's well that ends well. Charlie just needs to introduce some kind of pay/performance structure now to keep pay rates in line for the future.0 -
Unfortunately this guys taste of publicity seems to have went to his head. I have no problem, and would certainly advise private companies, to pay the amount that will attract, retain and reward the individuals that you need to run your business effectively. A meritocracy.
After a long period of doing just that, why create discord in a business that was running well and create a wasteful talking shop with grumbles from those below?
Too much drama and not enough truth and if he really "pays" himself £1M salary, he needs a better accountant.0
