Very rough costs for a 6' x 6' kitchen

We have a very small kitchen, just six feet square. I'm looking for very rough estimates for how much a quality kitchen might cost. I'm not being funny - to the nearest potential thousand will do for now; I really have no idea how much a kitchen costs.
Contents will be a good sink, space for a washing machine, no dishwasher, a combined electric oven and hob and an under-the-counter fridge. I'd like cupboards up to the top of the ceiling, which is the usual 7 or 8 foot or so. What I want most of all is lots and lots of workspace to put things on.
Sorry to be so vague about contents - I really am just looking for an 'It will be between x and y thousand including labour' kind of statement.
Clueless newbie...

How long is a piece of string.
Its not just the un its and fitting, but associated costs such as electrics and gas work.
Bear in mund that the electics in a kitchen have to be done by a qualified engineer, not just anyone taht can tell the difference between a live and earth cabling. Also remeber that if any wor kis done in the kitchen to the ring main, the electrician must ensure that there is RCD protection, which may mean extra work to the fuse box / distribution board.
If you want wall units to go to the ceiling, Howdesn now do tall units (app. 850mm tall I think off the top of my head). Magnet trade also do some but in a limited range. They certainly add a lot m,ore storage space.
I installed a 6 x 6 (or therabouts) kitchen recently including oven and hob, stainless steel chimney style cooker hood, integrated slimline dishwasher, integrated fridge freezer, integrated washing machine, total of 11 units with the extra tall wall units, undercabinet lighting, square edged quartz effect laminbate worktops,. Was app. £3200 including appliances, sink, cabinets, worktops etc. Fitting including tiling floor, tiling wall (fully tiled), upgrade to fuse box was app another £3000.
However, it can be done for a lot cheaper than than, especially if you DIY part of it and don't have everything integrated.

There are so many factors that there's no way to give you a reliable estimate without knowing a lot more. Apart from just the things like tilling, plumbing and electrics your choice of worktops, cabinets and their accessories makes a huge difference.
For instance our kitchen storage is basically all corners so we got those pullout magic corners and some other pullout units which are quite expensive probably 15% of the cost of the total of the units. More drawers are also more expensive than regular cupboards, stone worktops more than laminate, integrated more than free standing appliances, curved units more than flat etc etc.
You could be looking at £4-5k on the low end and £10-15 at the mid-higher end (and way more than that if you want to spend £££).0 -
As others have said, it really is a "how long is a piece of string?" question. However, if you are talking low to high end shed product, which is the norm, or lower end independent product, fitted with tiling, you are unlikely to be much under 4k or much over 10k.
Big range I know, but there are so many variables as stated above.0 -
If you do want a more accurate estimate then either going on one of the many online planners (IKEA, Wren, B&Q etc) yourself or posting some dimensions and pics of the existing kitchen here and I'm sure some people would be able to whip up a very quick model which might give you an indication of prices. If you want to keep the sink, washing machine, oven and hob in the same sort of location it will be a lot cheaper than moving them about.0

So you want a fridge, washing machine and over/hob PLUS 'lots and lots of workspace' - all in a room only 6 foot square??"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I replaced my kitchen in my last flat in 2005 which was around the same size.
Total cost was about £1600.
This was for the units & worktops, sink, water piping, flooring and painting done DIY but with the help of a B&Q planner.
B&Qs quote to do everything was £4300 and other quotes ranged from £3500 to £6000.0 -
I found the B&Q planner superb ... really helpful and never any pressure. Go and spend an hour with them and you'll have a much better idea.0

We're having ours done at the moment - ours is 5m by 2.5m.
I've shopped around and found Ikea to be the cheapest for us - I've gone for one of the mid range units and it is costing £3K for the units (in a U-shape), including sink, dishwasher, cooker hood, microwave. I think it could be cheaper but we've gone for two massive larder cupboards with all the fancy pull out interiors. Worktops are laminate as granite would have cost almost as much as the kitchen units and I couldn't justify the cost.
Fitting is going to cost £1300, this includes fitting of the kitchen and re routing the gas supply to the other side of the room. Removal and capping off of a radiator. Installing some sockets underneath the worktop for the appliances and re-routing the plumbing outside so that we don't have any pipes behind the units.
I've also spent £600 on some electrics before hand. This has included a new consumer unit and sockets around the house to bring it up to date.
I'm estimating that including flooring and tiling and a freestanding cooker it's going to cost around £6K.
I think you can keep some of the costs down by keeping the appliances in the same position, my sister recently had a kitchen fitted and it cost around £2K in total (including sink, and new fitted oven and hob), but it was relatively simple as everything was in the same position as before and she did not need any plumbing or electrics done. She also reduced fitting costs by building up the kitchen carcasses themselves. I know her fitter charged £400ish for fitting and £200ish for tiling. I think her kitchen is around 3.5 x3m - U-shape.
Have a play with the online planners using your dimensions, I found Ikea and B&Q's planners to be easy(ish) to use, and they both give you an approximate price, so you know what to expect on that front.0 -
We paid £6k for the bottom of the range Magnet kitchen in our small flat. This was five years ago, and MFI gave us a similar quote. The appliances included were fridge/freezer, electric oven, gas hob and hood, and sink plus drainer. The price also included tiling the floor, and tiling the area between the top and bottom units. We had to buy the tiles separately ourselves.
There's a pic of it here, from when we sold it:0 -
for a kitchen that small, £1,500 will get you enough units, work top and tiles for the floor. That price includes sink, oven/hob and fridge
Ikea will get you materials for that price and it will be good quality.0
