Is it illegal to post someones license plate online?

    Nothing wrong in this at all, look at Youtube where people post vids of tailgaiting and road rage incidents. Some even put the reg number in the title.
    You have to make sure that what you say is factually correct, although unlikely the ordinary punter will have the money to pay legal fees to do anything about it.

    I've actually spoken to some lawyer folk since my original post, who stated that there's no legal precedent that prevents you from posting pictures online of registration plates as long as the information linked to them is factually correct and, ideally, date stamped. This prevents the association of an incident with just a numberplate, and rather instead with a particular event. :)

    That sounds about right! I would just be careful of defamation if you are going to add commentary. YouTube videos showing a license plate are different because they are 100% factual (unless you add subtitles, commentary, etc). If you were to say something damaging about the owner/driver that wasn't true then you could land yourself in trouble. Now you've got me intrigued! What did they do??
