French doors with half panel for fitting cat flap?

Hi everyone,

we'd like to replace our small french doors as they are not very well insulated or secure as they only have single glazing - I think they were probably designed as internal doors.

However, we want to put a cat flap in so can't go for single panel glazed doors. We are not fussy whether doors are upvc or wood.

Does anyone know of suitable doors? Otherwise we'll have to replace with a single door and a non-opening glass side panel.

thanks

Have you tried talking to a friendly local double glazing company?

Since PVC doors and windows are made to order, they should be able to produce pretty much whatever you want.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

A glazier will be able to provide a double glazed unit or a single pane of glass with a cat flap in. Its not an uncommon request.
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.
  • Thanks, I was just looking at the offerings from the sheds. There's a local double glazing firm who repaired a window for us last year and they were very good so I'll try them.

My son has double french doors with a single piece of glass in each. He had a new panel made with a cat flap. I would imagine that any competent glazier could manufacture a double glazed panel with a hole for a cat flap.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
  • I had a look at the website of the local company that I mentioned and sure enough, in their photo gallery is a photo of a single-paned door with a cat flap - complete with a moggie posing in front of it!! It's a single door but I'm sure the principal is the same for French doors.

As always, thanks for the advice. abbnafc
