Hi,
I have just returned from Spain after working there for 3 years (due to not being able to find a job in the UK). I have had car insurance before I left and had 6 years no claims bonus on a Nissan 350z. my insurance was around 700pounds a year!!
I still have a house in the UK while I worked in Spain and my girlfriend lived in the UK. I was also on my girlfriends insurance in the UK as a named driver for the first 2 years while I was in Spain. Unfortunately we split up 1 year ago so I have been uninsured for 1 year.
I have now returned to the Uk and am trying to get insurance for a R reg 1997 BMW 320i.
the quotes I'm getting are between 2800 pounds and 6500  pounds the car was given to me free and is worth 500 pounds....
Am i doing something wrong or is this the state of the insurance industry in the UK? i am 41 next week.

You have to start again with your NCD I'm afraid.
I think its a 2 year gap, then it goes.
Just keep on shopping around.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Have a look at comprehensive cover0

hi thanks, it is comprehensive...and I have tried 3rd party the quotes don't change by much...
is it the car?0 -

even if I have been a named driver within the past 2 years. Does NCD not count as a named driver?
I also had a company car in Spain and was on Company insurance there.
thanks0 -
Try your last insurer in the UK and see if they will help.
Phone rather than online would be best.0 -
As well as trying your last insurer, a good local broker might be worth a call too.
Do you have evidence of claim free motoring from your spanish employer/insurer? If not it might be worth getting a letter from them (ideally in english)0
