Please help! Finding a courier for an oddly sized 7kg package?!

icon1.gif
Hi
I'm a bit of a parcel novice, and was wondering if anyone could help me?
I'm looking to have a parcel sent to me from ebay, but the selller is offering quite high postage, but he agreed to let me arrange my own courier. The parcel weighs 7 kg, and is 112 x 93 x 92 cm, which I've found when collecting quotes online that this size means quotes rocket up to around £90 for pallet loading! Could anyone help me to find a cheap reliable courier, I'm hoping to have insurance for a item value of around £30 - £35.

Thanks x

Sorry but you're going to be paying pallet money because it takes up the same space as a pallet. Charges are both weight and volume based. If they put your parcel on, that is an entire pallets worth of space taken up regardless of the fact it is only 7kg. I used to transport polystyrene boxes in an articulated lorry and they'd completely fill the wagon. The customer would pay the same rate for that as they would a 24 tonne load because it filled the wagon.

How can you not see this?
  • depending on how far it is from you it might be cheaper to rent a van and collect it yourself.

I priced up 112 x 98 x 92 and they are quoting £9.49 plus VAT for a parcel that size on City Link. I use them all the time, they use UPS and City Link.
