Death certificate without the date of death?

Hi,

I'm going to be organising a headstone for my Nan. We buried her ashes on Monday in the grave were her Mum and Dad are. I'm going to need their details too so I can include them all on the headstone (there was never a headstone there)

I only know their burial dates, 1939 and 1943. My idea was to apply for their death certificates as they should include their dates of birth. In March I had to apply for my Grandad's and I needed the date he died. Do you think I will have a problem getting them if I don't know the exact date they died?

Thanks :)

It won't be a problem but you if you can narrow it down to a month/qtr that would be easier! You could check on freeBMD.org or ancestry.co.uk at your local libary for the month/qtr if you don't know it.

The three most important things are:
Rough date of death (year, month)
Full name at time of death
    Place of death.

Apply to the register office that holds the records for that area, and you will be able to order them for £10 each.

    Hope that helps.

Try free BMD with their full names and the year of their death. That should give you the certificate numbers. Just google freebmd and it will show.

You can order them online via https://www.gro.gov.uk - the form will explain what information you need (you may have enough if the names are unusual)

    Thanks :T

When I had to find the grave in the first place I managed to get a lot of info... the date of burial and the address at time of death were all listed on a Toxteth Cemetery index site. I'll try and order some death certificates tomorrow.

It's sad to read some of the information, nothing I don't already know because my Nan told me. But seeing it in black and white really hurts... 12 y/o when her Mum died and 14y/o when her Dad died. Oh well, she's with them both now so that makes me feel a little bit better.
