Tax Credit Reduction - Help

I am more than a little horrified to get my tax credit award notice today, to discover that my award has gone down from £1,994 to £554. As my income has changed very little over the last year, has anyone any idea why this has changed so much please? It has drastic implications for me & my daughter still living at home. :( Thanks

What was your household income in 10/11 and 11/12? It isn't just last year's income that is relevant.

  • My daughter is no longer in full time education and hasn't been since she left school about 18 months ago. Income was approx £9,500 for 10/11 and £10,083 for 11/12, not much of a difference really. Thanks for all your replies x

Then you have your answer - she is an adult and no longer eligible for CTC.

Is your daughter working or claiming any benefits?

Surely given that the OP's Daughter left education 18 months ago the tc's would have been reduced then?

Why would the reduction only be happening now?

£554 sounds too little on that income even with no children. Is that an annual amount? What are your circumstances (hours work, kids, disabilities, childcare, single/couple). Are you paying back an overpayment?
