Taking our niece abroad

From my search I know this question has been asked a few times but the last one I can find was a few years ago and travel advice changes.

Myself and my partner are looking to take our niece abroad. What, if any, additional documentation would be require?

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. This isn't 100% decided as yet but the likely destinations are the usual southern med beach destinations (Greece etc.) or the USA.

    Thanks.

we took our grandson to spain last year. told there would not be a problem with spain itself but because we were going to visit gibralter there might be!
we were advised to take a letter of consent from the parents.
travel agent did mention if we were going to the likes of mexico it would be more complicated.

i've taken my niece to France a couple of times, first time i took a letter of consent from her mum, 2nd time we didn't - and that was the one time we were asked for it by the immigration officials at Luton airport.

Take a letter of consent with you - better to err on the safe side.

Thanks for the further replies - all most helpful. So are there any specifics to this letter? Also any specific regarding travel to the US?

    Thanks again.

i've no idea if theres anything specific to the US, but the letter i got my sister to do for my niece went something like "I (full name of niece's mum) am (niece's name) mother, and i give permission for my sister (my name) to take her to (France for me, whichever country is applicable for you) from and to (dates of travel). My contact details are (then sister put in her home, mobile and work telephone numbers).

I did the same as balletshoes so brother could take my daughter to Canada. My letter was similar but I added a bit about brother acting in 'loco parentis' in the event of her needing any medical treatment too (they were going skiing). One ski trip they were asked for it, the other they werent, bit hit and miss.
