I've found lots of great books for free for my Kindle. I just searched 'free' and '0.00'
I find it easier to do the search on my laptop though, and get the book sent wirelessly to the Kindle, as it brings up suggestions for other free books, too. From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!0 -
I think there's a Kindle app for iPhone. Why not download that and see how you get on.0

I've got a Sony ereader but I have a few free books on the Kindle app too (works for Android) as I don't always carry my ereader around with me and it's useful to just read a Sherlock Holmes story or something like that if I'm trapped on the tube with hardly room to move.0 -
I just got a tablet and installed the Kindle app on it, and I love it. Although I do want to get either a Kindle or a Kobo as they seem to be easier on the eyes, and the battery life is great. I'm wondering which to get...I like how easy it is to download books on Kindle, and also how their customer service is excellent, but I'm not sure if that is worth the higher price. Any thoughts?
Sorry to highjack your thread OP! x
Someone at work has a kindle...the half the screen has stopped working, and typically it's 2 months out of waranty. They've contacted customer service, and repair is £40. Which seems quite reasonable, however, they will only guarantee it for 3 months. So now they don't want to fork out to get it repaired, as after 3 months it could go again, and cost another £40, whereas my kobo with a £30 off code only cost me £50 something brand new.
So if they get no joy arguing over their kindle (they don't mind paying for the repair, its the fact that the guarantee is only 3 months even if the same fault develops again), they're planning on getting a new kobo, as at least then it won't have cost much more and be 12 months guarantee. Obviously lots of people have kindles and have no problems with, and have great experiences with customer service, but personally I don't think it justifies the higher cost, particularly after hearing of their experience.
I have to say my kobo is easy to put books on, it must be for me to manage it :rotfl:Avon Lady since 2009 - I help on the Avon hints & tips thread to help other reps/new sales leaders as I was helped so much by it when I first started out :A0 -
What I love most about my kindle is that if my eyes are tired I can make the font bigger so i dont have to find my glasses!
And the free books are great if you like the classics or trash, if your tastes are more specific (I love Scifi) it can be hard to find good freebies. that said I put everything I fancy on my wishlist then when i'm ready for a new book I browse to see which is the best offer at that moment.
I was sceptical before I was given one but I love it now!Credit Card debt £10247.17 1/1/20200 -
Where did you get your Kobo from and is the discount code still valid? I may just be swayed if it's that much cheaper!0

My husband ordered his from very, and mine from isme. He just googled for discount voucher codes for those companies, and he found one for £30 off a spend of £50 or more. Can't remember what site he found it on, but he didn't have to look for very long to find it. We only ordered ours start of last month so it might still be valid, or at least a different code to give you a good discount.
I didn't think I'd be that keen on using one, but I'm a convert I'd be lost without it now! It does everything I want it to, saves my place, I can put plenty of books on (and easy to do), change the font type & size. Battery lasts for ages as well, I hardly ever turn it off fully, just leave it on standby, and it still lasts far longer than I ever expected it to. There's probably loads more features, but that's all I've ever used as I don't want it for the gadgety bits, just to let me read lots of books

If you have documents that you want in the Kindle format, you can also use the belwo to convert from epub etc to .mobi the Kindle format. Kindle does support a few different formats though.

If you want free books (apart from the classics which are always available) it's worth keeping an eye on the Amazon free lists - a lot of independent Kindle publishers and authors make their books free early on to gain readers and reviews and you can grab some good stuff.
There are some websites which keep you updated on the offers - Pixel of Ink lists freebies I think - or you can just check amazons free bestseller lists regularly.
Of course, there's a lot of not-so-great (to say the least!) stuff too, but if you do find something good then you could leave a nice review - these really, really help indie authors starting out.
Edit: forgot to mention that the freebies often point to Amazon.com but you can usually find the same book for free on .co.uk too with a quick search.0
