Very short UK break - beach with a backup plan?

Hi,

Looking to go away (3 of us fwiw) somewhere in the UK just for one night for my girlfriend's birthday (can't go away for longer than a weekend break unfortunately due to her work being hectic for the next couple of months!)

Ideally we'd like to go on a beach holiday in the South West, so were thinking Dorset, maybe Cornwall area, but with the weather the way it has been lately I'm not sure I'd want to chance going somewhere with little more than nice beaches.

Complete long shot, but is there anywhere nice to go that has nice beaches, but also some interesting places to visit or things to see if the worst happens and the weather is awful? Preferably in the South West

Would really appreciate any suggestions, thank you :)

Finding it nearly impossible to find a single place in Devon/Cornwall that's available :/ Everywhere I've tried on TripAdvisor (and showing as available) is actually booked. I guess 3 is quite an awkward number too, either a double room needed and a single also, or a family room or something... pushing our luck on a Saturday night for a last minute break!

Peak season and one night only's a stumbling block. Not many will take a booking of one night, that'll prevent them taking a week-long booking.

Yeah you're not wrong - think our best option is a TravelLodge - though the price has gone up £30 from yesterday to today, arggghh! Should've just bookd it :/

  • Yes agree somewhere with Pubs plus lots of good B & B accommadation..you can usually get rooms even in Peak times especially with the rain we've been having. My suggestions in our area of Cornwall would be Looe, Fowey, St Ives, Newquay, Penzance etc..all large enough places to have spare beds, lots of good restaurants and if you are very lucky enough to get some sun..beaches there or nearby!! Good Luck!
    :T2013...nothing..still hoping though!!
