Fraud on a Barclays account

Hi all,
Just wondering if you can help, my brother has a bank account with Barclays, he was mugged about 6 months ago and his Debit card was stolen. He has requested a new debit card countless times however they are saying that due to "Fraud" on his account they are not able to issue him with a new card. This is the account he has his wages paid into and as a result has not been able to get access to this to pay rent to my parents or travel expenses to work. He has turned to payday loans to survive against everyones advice. He has not received any correspondence from Barclays regarding this fraud or updates on he investigations that are being carried out. Is this usual procedure? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

any way he could open an account with another bank & try to get his wages paid into that.
It sounds odd to me but I dont really know their procedures.
has he tried making a formal complaint?Tallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!0 -
He presumably has another account if hes been using payday loans, and has had access to the funds.... why has he not just changed his wages to this account??? if this has been going on for 6 months how has he been able to pay back payday loans?? sorry all sounds a bit iffy to be honest ....On the road to financial freedom.... one MSE penny at a time....:T0

Yes, good idea. Not sure how he gets access to the past 6 months worth of wages though!0

can he not just go into branch and withdraw over the counter??? he will prob need some id however they cannot with hold 6 months wages unless of course he owes them moneyOn the road to financial freedom.... one MSE penny at a time....:T0

No, he doesnt have another account xxscottslassxx...the payday loan company give him cash in hand as he is a member! how these companies get away with it I have no idea! Your right, he has been unable to pay those back either so you can imagine the stress of it all!0

still sounds very iffy to be honest
am sure there are some pdl who give cash in hand payment however am also sure they require debit card/cheque guarantee card/bank details for repayment methods... how many of these has he said hes taken out??? On the road to financial freedom.... one MSE penny at a time....:T0 -
I must say that if it was me I would be in the bank causing uproar after one week. Perhaps someone a bit forceful should accompany your brother to the bank after making an appointment, could you do it?
I have to agree with Scotslass that something doesnt seem right.Tallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!0 -
i too would be in uproar and doubt id last a week lol....
u say there has been fraud on his account... has HE committed the fraud by any chance?? this would be the only reason I would think they would not issue any new card etc....
you have said he is a 'member' of the payday loan companies therefore he would have had to have at least one or two prior to all this and paid back on time etc to have gained 'member' status.... he hasnt written any post dated cheques to any of these using the stolen bank card has he??On the road to financial freedom.... one MSE penny at a time....:T0 -
I do hate to say this & hope I am wrong but does your brother really not have access to his account? Is it possible given what scotslass says about PDL members that all his wages are being used to repay loans & that he does not have any left to pay rent or travel.
He could be stuck in the PDL vicious circle, seen quite often on this forum.Tallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!0 -
I agree with you all it does seem very suspicious especially as he has had no written correspondence from them. Yes he has taken PDL's out in the past which my parents have paid off for him to help break the debt cycle but his lesson has not been learnt! Its all very difficult. I live in Leeds and he is in Liverpool or I would have been in the bank with him by now. Hard to know what to do next really! Thanks for the advice though
