New Orleans is fab if you like music, although maybe not so good for teenagers.
Shopping is not that great.
We usually do NOLA then Texas for shopping and that is enough for us in 2 weeks.
As others suggest maybe better sticking to California or Florida.

I would agree with the general consensus about concentrating on a smaller area. We are just about to fly out on Saturday with our two daughters (9 and 6) to Denver, then drive through to northern Utah, southern Utah, Gran Canyon, Las Vegas, Ventura (California), Disney then San Diego.
10 different hotels in 21 days, with more time in California for beach stuff.0
