This is truly awful. I hope your wife is ok and gets well soon. Though I'm sure the last thing she'll need when she recovers is to sort this mess out.
Data protection is there for you, not for companies to hide behind

    hi Paul,

We cannot make any financial based changes on accounts without discussing this with the account holder directly.

This is to ensure compliance with Data Protection, only the account holder can make any chargable changes to an account, including services or applications of credit.

With respect to password holders we can discuss details of the account, however we cannot make financial changes from a password holder request.

    Regards

Hi Paul, I hope your wife is getting better.

That response from Mark of TalkTalk is as useless as a chocolate teapot. Firstly, not one ounce of sympathy shown for your situation. Secondly not any practical suggestions for solving the problem or resolution of the fact you didn't get the management call.

There is nothing stopping you from paying the outstanding amount directly yourself with a card payment (a card in yourname). You can pay anyone's accout come to that as long as you have the account details.

Personally I don't anticipate you'll get any apology or compensation from TalkTalk. Years ago they were a good company, but now I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

Expecting firms to maintain a grey list of phones that are in default but still allowed to make emergency calls is a non starter, despite how 'nice' the idea might be. (Just think, everyone gets a free phone line to the 112/999 operator whilst other customers pay).

WHAT?! I think there should be a talk-back facility on here just like Youtube, so you can see just how stupid that piece of quoted text is. Unbelievable.
