Entertaining the kids during the summer holidays

Every year its the same, we all hope for lovely blue sky's and not a drop of rain so we can take our little treasures out to the park and picnic everyday. The reality of it is that it will probably rain for more of the summer holidays than we are prepared for.
So while pottering around town today I popped into a couple of shops for cheap ideas for rainy days for my two sons aged 6 & 9.
I have come away pleasantly surprised. For £5 I have 2x little wooden bird boxes to make and paint, 2x Disney Cars Canvas's to paint and a book of 8 paper/light weight card cars to put together. Perfect for my two.
The shops I looked in were the 99p store and a cheap book shop (forgotten the name, but sure most towns will have something like it). There was even more goodies for the girls too, bracelet kits, plant pot painting, bead kits the list goes on, all for 99p.
Do not be afraid of the £1 shops and such like, in there you will find some amazing bargains in among the tack.
Which leads me onto why I have started this thread, what other cheap or even free rainy day pass times have you either found or created to help get through those wet days?
Share your ideas and finds, so this summer holiday can be the best and cheapest yet. :j

Another cheap idea, Making flapjacks. Pack of oats, butter, sugar and syrup cost no more than £3 (using own brands) gives you several batches of yummy flapjack and happy children. If only money grew on trees *sigh*0
