We've just put in a ceanothus and am noticing it's in a pretty shady place. It's near a south facing fence so it's not dingey but a combination of houses and trees mean it isn't getting much direct sunlight through the day.
Does it stand a chance?

I have one in front of the house, facing west, and it's OK with the afternoon/evening sun. TBH, I think shelter from winter wet\cold is just as important.0

Its not a good place for it. It likes sunshine and lots of it. It's not called californian lilac for nothing.0
