Printing problems

Options
I have a HP psc 1350 not compatable with Windows 7 but the basic drivers in the computer used to work it just fine until a while ago, until an update. Now between the computer / printer they do not like to print labels or envelopes, they print but not in the right place. I've tried allsorts but no luck. Anybody with things I could try ?

Because of, i'm looking to buy a new printer because of above, has anyone used a HP 5510 & refilled the catridges themselves ?

Cheers Just landed :)

Took the plunge today & bought a HP 5510e. Now having second thoughts, I've read on a forum that this model on start up cleans its printer ink heads also when swiching off. The amount of printing I do will soon use the ink up just cleaning the heads, this is why I moved away from Epson a few years ago. Does anyone have the HP 5510e and if so would you confirm the cleaning of the heads takes place on start up & shutting down please ?

    Thancks

Most printers do that, or certainly on start up

If the printer lights go off and it goes to standy after 5 minutes or so, don't bother to switch it off.

" How does the ink level monitor work?

When you run the cleaning cycle or switch on your printer this also uses ink that again is deducted from the volume. "

    There is this

    http://h10060.www1.hp.com/pageyield/articles/us/en/InkUseage.html

In the printing process, some ink is used to prepare the printer for use

Which mentions start up but not shut down

You could try auto off feature, though if it does the start up routine before starting to print, you may as well leave that off - not used.

Standby, if an option, is as good as any IMO

We have a HP Photosmart C7280 All in One Printer/Copier/Scanner. It drives me crazy with the amount of grumbling and groaning it does each time we print something.

I realise that it is essential that heads must be cleaned for the printer to work efficiently, but every few page print-offs, the system stops and begins grinding and groaning again ........

Surely these days, printers should work better than this!

The end user probably only has one way to go, and that is to reduce the cost of ink

Most, if not all document printing can be done satisfactorily using compatible inks.

I have a number of pairs of printers, and have been able to run one with genuine inks and one with compatible inks, even with photos it isn't possible to tell the difference, though I may go to look at one of the compatible produced ones in a hundred years and notice the difference.

Have started using refillable cartridges, as some CISS require removing parts from the printer, thereby invalidating the warranty.

For my printers, they do not do a charging routine when refilled, so that will save a bit (lot) of ink, and they have the advantage of being able to be filled with head cleaning flush if a nozzle or nozzles become really blocked.

Although the initial outlay for the cartridges is somewhat steep, the ongoing cost is down to 15p per cartridge, based on a 13ml refill

The beauty of HP Printers up to now that is, I have been refilling them with compatible inks for a number of years.
I am begining to think I am the only person to have a HP 5510e on this website.
Anybody out there with one of these printers ?

    :)
