Let us not mistake advertised goods with actual sales. As I said earlier I get dozens of websites advertised on facebook selling pages every day selling all sorts of homemade crafts, but that doesn't mean they are selling anything.

I think it is extremely cruel to encourage someone to do something that is almost certainly doomed to failure. I could not be that nasty to someone.

I think it's cruel to discourage someone from doing something they obviously enjoy and get pleasure out of. Why are you being so negative anyway?

I've just logged on to facebook and I've seen 2 or 3 people posting pics of finished handmade products that are ready to be posted to the customer. So people obviously do buy these kind of items.

Jade - did you make the flowers and hearts?
I did make a couple of suggestions yesterday and pots have been mentioned, which have a better chance of being bought.
I just can't see how you would make a living selling mini rolling pins. I would actually horrified if I received one from a friend and would be expected to nail it to my tiled kitchen wall. (Funnily enough I would really feel touched if a child had given it to me, one they had made)
You haven't sold any pins yet and I can't see anyone who has said they would love one in the posts here( but I have skimmed them). In a way you have marketed them here and indications here are they you have not found the correct product.
Don't be miffed from the feedback as really it is given to help you.

The feedback of these sellers proves that there is a market. They aren't simply listing it for the sake of it.

I think it is fine for people to do hobbies they enjoy, my mother makes handmade cards and gets a great deal of pleasure out of it. If we are talking doing this just as a hobby then no, by all means carry on being encouraging.

However, I thought we were discussing making money from this idea, in which case yes I think it is very cruel just to say carry on, when this is doomed to failure.

I think I have really said everything I can say if this thread is merely going to be all warm and fuzzy and unrealistic about what business and money making entails.

I hope you don't mean me there. I have given constructive feedback. It may not come with sugar coating but it is meant to help.

I'm not a kitchen clutter person so the product wouldn't be a must buy for for me..............However..............

Jade-Take yourself off to craft fairs over the next few weekends -but go with your business head screwed on. Identify the stalls who are selling similar products to yours and have a good browse -whilst doing so listen to what the other browsers are saying about the products -work out who buys what -see if particular themes (Christmas, Easter,New Baby, New Home etc) are more popular (with buyers not what looks nice).
When you get home write down what you learned and any ideas you've got from the day. Once you've done this a few times you'll have some decent market research and perhaps the beginnings of a business.

As for there's no market.....I'm sure the same thing was said to Anita Roddick when she started out...... Bodyshop anyone ?

If there was a market big enough for their products - they wouldn't be at a craft fair - they would have a shop. ;)
