Check the packagin. If it does not list horse on in then there is none in the tin.
Do you really think ASDA would call it corned beef and then fill the can with Horse - which I doubt would actually save money.Total Debt Feb 2012 [STRIKE]£12,153[/STRIKE] 10674 16.5% Paid

Many of us eat pig & cow, so what's the harm in a bit of horse? Although I always believed that the horse meat thing was just a rumour. Eat your pie & enjoy, bet it's lovely!0

Cooked Beef , Salt , Sugar , Preservative (Sodium Nitrite).
However, I suspect that the "Made with 120g of Cooked Beef per 100g of finished product" should either read "120g of Raw Beef", or that the amounts are the wrong way round.
It comes from Brazil so, using your sister's logic, it ought to have guinea pig in it. BTW, how does she explain the lack of corn?
The name comes from the "corns" or large grains of salt, which were originally used to preserve it.
PS. I've eaten horse in France and it was very sweet and absolutely delicious. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

My dad worked in food analysis, and told me the above fact a long time ago. I believe the difference in weight is due to the reduction in water during the 'corning' process.0 -

I don't know, I've ever been to France. I've seen fields full of horses, but I've never known why they were there, or what happened to them after I passed by.Barneysmom wrote: »She's misinformed or making it up, eat it, I'm jealous I wish I had some

She was probably joking.
That was because they use to import them from here (Dartmoor) untill they banned live exports, Dartmoor ponies have always traditional been used for horse meat. if you have eaten salami in Europe you have probably eaten horse.
whats the big deal tho, i can never understand how people are quite happy to eat meat from lambs, cow's and pig's, yet are appalled at the idea of fluffy bunnies/guinea pigs or pony's ending up on the dinner plate,0 -
