Bank of Scotland Basic Cash Account

Hello. I have been doing quite well over last year or so - reducing debts and keeping up with self managed repayment plan - occasional hiccups - but have immediately contacted people when these have occurred and this has been ok.
I have a co-op cashminder but have had a problem as one of the hiccups was 5 months ago where I fuelled up at a pay at pump and thought I had the correct amount in account to cover this. I forgot about a small direct debit and so this along with the petrol took me overdrawn by £8. I got a letter about it and was charged the following month (£20 or £28?). That was the only hiccup generated by my error. However - I have also had problems with my energy company who keep trying to take the wrong amount for my direct debit. Direct debit is £100 per month and they have taken £240 on one occasion - which I never got back even after complaining - this then resulted in another direct debit (house insurance) being rejected by coop as insufficent funds. I was charged for that too and got a letter. I contacted coop to explain and also put it in writing but never got a written response. Last month the energy company did the same but took £500!!!! I contact the energy company immediately and they told me to tell the bank to do an indemnity claim and the energy company apologised this time and said they would credit the value of any bank charges to my gas/electric account. I rang the bank that day and they did the claim back for me and I got the money back into my co-op account within a day or two. I have now had a letter from co-op saying they are not happy with the conduct of my account and are closing it in 30 days. Technically it is less than 30 days as they are stopping the card in about a week. So I am going to have to open another account quickly to get everything set up.
My main bank used to be Natwest - so cant touch them - they probably wouldnt want to touch me either
. I am in a payment arrangement with them though.
I have just spent time online and barclays need me to make an appointment in branch. Just phoned branch and they cant offer an appointment for 3 weeks.
Tried to look at lloyds online application but kept freezing.
Then went onto Bank of Scotland and their basic cash account with visa electron looks ok to me. Just wanted to know if anybody any experience of them. Also - main question - are they connected to NATWEST?? I get confused between RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland) - and Bank of Scotland - would i be right in thinking Bank of Scotland are linked to Halifax?
Any help appreciated. I would prefer a bank I could apply online to as cant face squiriming in the bank while they try and sell me stuff I know I wouldnt be eligible for anyway - and dont want. I just want a basic account.
I have also written to COOP to ask if they would reconsider - dont hold outmuch hope??? cheers - RON

hey, I have the basic cash account with BOS. I have found the service to be so-so. I had a problem with them during account opening which they quickly credited me with 50.00 for to cover the inconvenience. The only drawback for me is being only able to withdraw cash at certain atm's. There are the only bank to have refused me a full current account, but since I have other current accounts anyway, a quick transfer can be made to another account for cash to be withdrawn. I also like their monthly saver account.0

Hello. thanks for replying. I need to look at the details as I didnt notice the limitations on cash machines. I will go on to the website now and see what it says.
I will just set it up and see anyway. It can ask as a spare account if it isnt too good. thanks though. Do you know if it has any connection to natwest? I have been looking for a list somewhere.0 -

Nope they have no connection with Natwest they are part of HBOS / Lloyds TSB.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0
