We had the call, but American female did not know or would not give details of the company involved.

My husband had a dodgy phonecall tonight. He answered the phone to what seemed a recording in an American accent saying he had won a holiday and to press number 9. Of course he didnt - but Id hate to think what would have happened or how much it would have cost us if he had.

It wouldn't have cost you a penny...

There seems to be an urban myth doing the rounds that by pressing a button on an INCOMING call, you'll be magically connected to a 'premium rate line, charging you £50 per minute.'
    1. You can't be charged for incoming (except reverse charges)
    2. There is no '£50/min tariff'; even the rip-off prize/scam lines are only able to do max of something like £1.50/min.

See somewhere like www.icstis.org.uk for details.

If this isn't what you were referring to on your posting, my apologies.

From what I have read if he had pressed 9 he would have got thru to a "real person" who would then have tried to scam credit card details "to verify his identity". I didnt say that by just pressing 9 we would be charged for the call.

As the saying goes ... if it seems to good to be true - it probably is.
