TMP from Halifax

Dear all,
I'm hoping to begin a claim against the Halifax - in my (our) opinion, when we took out a mortgage with the Halifax 7 years ago we were told we could not have the mortgage product we chose unless we took out Total Mortgage Protection from the Halifax. This cost around £100 per month and we're still paying it.
This seems like a case of mis-selling to me - has anyone had a similar experience?
Stu.

If you are told you have to have something when you dont then that is wrong. Problem is that you have no way to support that allegation. It is the weakest of the mis-selling complaints and in most cases you would expect a rejection unless there is another failing.
The Halifax TMPP is a multi-product plan rolled into one. Only one bit of it is likely to be PPI. It could also have life assurance, critical illness cover and income protection.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I've had tmp with the Halifax for about 7 years ,my husband is self employed ,we went to make a claim on it last year but it was so much hassle ,first we had to cease trading and close the business down letting the tax office know then my husband had to make a claim for unemployment benefit then wait 60 days ,the problem with this is that we then would have lost a business that we have run for over 20 years ,so we decided against making a claim on the tmp and just had to ride out the few months that we had no work ,if we'd have known at the time that this would be the case we wouldn't have taken it out ,we've had calls from the company's that want to claim it back for you they have said that it's not worth the paper it's written on but we haven't yet decided what to do and we're still paying it .Has anyone else had these problems and would that be cause to cancel it and claim for a refund0

o claim unemployment on the policy you need to be unemployed. If you are still trading then you are not unemployed.we decided against making a claim on the tmp and just had to ride out the few months that we had no work ,if we'd have known at the time that this would be the case we wouldn't have taken it out
A quiet period of income is not unemployment.we've had calls from the company's that want to claim it back for you they have said that it's not worth the paper it's written on
It would have paid out had your husband been unemployed. You were attempting (or considering) making a claim for something it did not cover and never covered.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I understand what your saying but when we went to inquire about tmp we explained to the adviser that we had been through the last two month with no work and this is what we want cover for , we still had no money coming in, but because we still had a business my husband could still price for jobs and try to get work in which he did after a few months ,this would have been hard if we'd have ceased trading .we we're not told we would have to close the business to make a claim ,we thought that having no work was classed as being unemployed this should have been explained more clearly ,so we've struggled through when we've had no work which has made having the policy worthless to us ,so we are considering canceling the income protection part as compared to other company's Halifax is quite expensive. .I've had tmp with the Halifax for about 7 years ,my husband is self employed ,we went to make a claim on it last year but it was so much hassle ,first we had to cease trading and close the business down letting the tax office know then my husband had to make a claim for unemployment benefit then wait 60 days ,the problem with this is that we then would have lost a business that we have run for over 20 years ,so we decided against making a claim on the tmp and just had to ride out the few months that we had no work ,if we'd have known at the time that this would be the case we wouldn't have taken it out ,we've had calls from the company's that want to claim it back for you they have said that it's not worth the paper it's written on but we haven't yet decided what to do and we're still paying it .Has anyone else had these problems and would that be cause to cancel it and claim for a refund0
