Where am i going wrong? Help please :)

I'm in the middle of redecorating & having a spring clean, meaning its really manic here, So i decided to spend a day sorting everything out and getting it up for sale.

So far i have advertised on the following:-

Gumtree,
Trade it
Facebook,
Twitter
Ebay....Although i'm v confused so its taking time.

But nothing is selling. No interest, Nothing.
I'm not expecting a fortune, Infact, I would rather these bits & bobs gone, But a little something for it wouldn't go a miss.

Any advice? Am i doing something wrong?
Future goals:
Become debt free.
Beat Depression.
Be happy & healthy

Having not seen the listings it is hard to say but these spring to mind:
    1. un-realistic pricing?
    2. photographs not decent?
    3. loads of similar things on the market already?
    4. listings finishing at the wrong time?
    5. impatience on your part?
    Best of luck with it.

Can be frustrating, but a little research can help
    • Google similar items to see how they are/have been priced.
    • If there's loads of items the same, undercut them.
    • Google items on sites like Amazon for accurate titles and descriptions.
    • Always carefully take and add a decent photo
    • Gumtree, etc - Take time to relist items after a few days to bump it up back up to the top
    • Ebay - List things to finish in the evenings when people are more likely to be looking
It's surprising what people will buy, but some things just don't seem to sell, so if you've persisted and they've still not sold just be happy to give them away to someone that will use them, advertise them as free to collector or donate them to the charity shop.

    Good luck!

Not adding decent photos is usually a sale killer. I advertised 6 lots of kids items on Gumtree and some other free ad sites recently, starting at higher prices than I expected so people could haggle down. Good clear honest descriptions and good clear pictures and 4 of them sold at the full asking price within 24 hours on Gumtree. Not a sniff from any of the other sites I advertised them on.

How detailed are the eBay descriptions? Do you have own photos (not stock)? Unless I want to take a chance with an item with little or descriptions I move on. I would normally put a lower bid on as I do not know what I am getting. If people are not sure what they are getting they might not bother.

If the items are pick up only, this limits your market. If postable are your P&P similar to others? If you are a newbie to Ebay this may put some people off.

Sometimes items don't sell and then next time when you relist you can be surprised what they go for a decent price with several bids.

As has been said before the time the auction ends matters. They are most likely several threads about this. Personally I would go for Sunday around 6ish.

I would look at the listings (or get a friend to help) as if you were a buyer.

I am also currently having a major declutter and have sold a few bits on Facebook, although the number of time wasters is beginning to irritate me on there. Nothing at all gets interest on Gumtree and a fair bit does OK on ebay but only after I have checked the completed sales.

About 90% of the stuff, including most books, DVDs, CDs old toys clothes and furniture has all gone to the charity shop as I cannot see any market for it at all.

I even tried a good working flat screen with freeview 15 inch TV on Freecycle but the only person who expressed even a slight interest decided it was too small, they wanted something larger for the kids room.

I only sell things off-ebay that are too big and require collection. Gumtree has always been the most successful off-ebay selling channel for me (second hand private stuff rather than business). Preloved and a couple of other free-ad sites rarely produce more than a few enquiries.

Selling on ebay can take loads of patience. I've had things on sale that haven't moved at all and then all of a sudden it shifts!
Do check out what others are selling the same product for!
