I am trying to get some reasonably priced travel insurance to cover pre-existing medical conditions.
I have mild depression which I take a very low dose tablet for. It seems that this is bumping my costs up horrendously even though it is in no way going to cause me to come home early/cancel. I seem to be lumped together with other suffers who have more severe symptoms.
I am also recovering from back surgery but, this on its own, doesn't seem to cause too much of an increase.
Insure and Go have come up with an acceptable quote but the seem to be slated on review sites.
Anyone have any experience or suggest other companies?

Declare the depression but say you wish it to be excluded from cover.
Glad to hear recovering from the back surgery doesn't make things too expensive; I had a nightmare in a similar position and I gather a lot of insurers really load premiums until 3 or 6 months after surgery.0 -
Many insurers will either cover all of your PEMC's, at a premium, or none of them and won't let you cherry pick which ones you want covered unfortunately.0

That's what I'm finding although some insurers just don't do depression but will cover my back.
I feel a bit frustrated as my depression is very mild and I feel penalised by being lumped in with the whole spectrum. A bit like saying that because I have a cold, I'm going to be treated as though I have pneumonia or I have mild asthma but we'll charge you the same as if you have emphasemia.
Thought I'd cracked it with StaySure but the company is underwritten by the same one as Insure and Go/Europ Assistance - a spanish company called Mapfre Asistencia Compania who don't seem to have a very good reputation for paying up)0 -
I've just remembered. https://www.eta.co.uk will cover PEMC's provided there has been no change in condition or medication in the past 12 months. Not sure if it would cover your back surgery, but it might be worth asking them. If your antidepressants haven't changed in the past 12 months that should be covered.
It might be worth a call to them as I have found them helpful on the phone or by email.
This is what they sayAre my pre-existing medical conditions covered under the policy? *
Yes, pre-existing medical conditions are covered provided they haven’t changed in the past twelve months. This means you have not been diagnosed with any new condition, had the need to seek medical advice (routine check ups are not included) or had your medication changed in any way i.e. type, dosage or frequency of the medication.0 -
Hi
LV have quoted to include anxiety but have now asked whether I have been treated for depression and your post has worried me.Preserving_Anonimity wrote: »I am trying to get some reasonably priced travel insurance to cover pre-existing medical conditions.
