Thank you gift/card for an audiologist...would this be appropriate?

  • I am a community worker, and helped out a family recently, going 'above and beyond' I suppose you'd call it. Not for any thanks, but just because they needed help and I could give it. Today I arrived at work to find a hand made card, a beautiful picture, and written inside by the little boy. I was moved to tears, it was just the best thing that he could have ever done, and I shall put it on display in pride of place. Far better than any material gift.

  • If you think some sort of tangible reward is deserved, then take a moment to find out the name of the Chief Executive of the hospital concerned, and send the letter for his/her attention. It will be read by that person, it will go onto the individual's file (for appraisal time), and it will be circulated down the chain towards the individual concerned. Praise from colleagues and peers will be pure "icing on the cake".

I was going to suggest this. One of my children was involved in a court case (victim/witness not perpetrator!!) and afterwards I wanted to thank the young policewoman who had been so helpful and supportive to us during the long period leading up to the case. As the police obviously can't receive gifts, I wrote a detailed thank you letter making it clear how well she had done her job, and copied it to her superior officer. It was very much appreciated.

I think a thank you card/letter is always appreciated, even if you are just 'doing your job'. Always nice to know that people appreciate the effort. A note to the Chief Exec is a great idea too.

Yes, a nice handwritten Thank you card or note and a letter to the highest person in the organisation you can find, detailing how this person helped you is the best 'present'.
When my OH helped out an elderly lady he didnt even think it noteworthy enough to tell me about it - but her family wrote to the Regional Manager (he works for an Utility Company) who was delighted, and copies of the letter were put on the Regions notice boards, with a personal note from the RM saying'this is how staff should approach thier work'. my OH also got a personal phone call from the RM and congratulated (which embarrassed him).

This may have had an effect on OH actually getting a promotion a year or two later!
