Barclaycard and late payment marker on Experian

Hi

I should have paid my Barclaycard on a friday but due to a family emergency it wasn't paid until the monday (bank transfer & faster payment).

This morning I get an Alert from Experian and find that Barclaycard have placed a orange 1 on my credit report - do they really do that for being a weekend late???

I know it was late but two days!!!!!!

Same thing has happened to me. I spoke to them on the phone... after being cut off twice... and they removed the late payment fee but I have had the message about the late payment marker today. I have just written to their CS department as I can not face trying to speak to someone again without being cut off! Never had these issues when my account was with EGG.

Emergency or not you still should of Paid it once the statement was processed.
Barclaycard probably get thousands of calls each day from customers claiming an emergency stopped me paying on time even if they are true or false customers will try anything.

Thank you for your insightful reply. I am not stupid and am perfectly capable of managing my previously unblemished account in my own way. I have accepted that the account was paid one working day late and have already paid the fee as it was my fault

The question I have asked is - are they usually that strict that one working day late is reported to the credit reference agencies???

It would appear so. However, not all providers operate so strictly. Some will only class a payment as 'late' if it's still overdue when they produce your next statement...which will be around 5-10 days after the previous statement's due date.

Just in case another "family emergency" arises in the future you may wish consider the free 'insurance policy' that a direct debit would provide.
  • Thanks YorkshireBoy.
Direct Debit is not possible as being self employed the account is settled in full from different accounts each time, depending on which of my companies have incurred the charges to the card

Just seems really strict that they should report for on working day delay!!

Not even for the minimum payment?

They may feel that, in sending your statement some 21 days previously, they've given you ample time to pay?

Not really mate. Can cause havoc with the accounting - we are talking 10-12K per month

Oh well - you live and learn don't you:)

Just pay a week before, or as soon as produced
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
