Shop vanished

I bought my friend a voucher for about £40 in March this year. It was at beautician & foot spa. On the high st, been there a while with good reviews. Voucher valid for a year.
Friend has just called to say shop is no longer there. Phone number is getting no reply. They have no website, the address is for shop that's closed. Have found a Facebook page, but looks like it has not been used in few months. I sent a message just incase.
What do I do now? Have I lost my money & my friend missed out on her present?

Yes, most probably. I think you might even be over the 120 days for CC chargeback (assuming you used this).
But might be worth having a dig around they might just have closed that shop and have others or have not gone in to liquidation. (but I would suspect they are gone.0 -

gift vouchers should be banned, they are just a rip off. Won't repeat myself, as I'm probably getting boring.;)0

there was an article in the paper about a spa that went bunk over night leaving loads of people out of pocket from vouchers0 -
No not in Birmingham.

Disagree, they should maybe have more protection but they have their place in societyDon't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
It's likely they have closed because they have no more cash left, particularly no more cash left in their merchant account. So even if a chargeback was valid, there is a possibility it will fail because they are unable to recover the money from the merchants account0
