You do know guineas go mental for parsley, and it is very good for them because of the high vitamin c content? Parsley will grow like mad in any space you have!

Morning all, jope everyone is warm.

OH is making another valliant attempt to get to work, he got about 5 minutes down the road yesterday before he had to turn back. He took advice from the neighbours yesterday as they all got together to clear the ice (think the dustman was pleased this morning when he turned up) I wish I could help a bit myself but bending and shovelling are geyond me. I am going to get my walking boots on and venture out today though, otherwise I will seize up altogether.

I think OH thought I was crazy moving all these food stores when we moved here last month - certainly paying dividends now. What it has taught me though is I need to rethink a few things, may not need quite so many beans but could have done with more evap (for on my porridge) Also I will run out of dried yeast soon though not before we will be able to shop again. I think some careful planning for next winter may be required rather than a 'buy it just in case' type stock up. I can't really afford to store food we might not use.

Suffice to say this last week has certainly made me very pleased to have had plenty in to be getting on with even after running stocks down for the move.
(also thank heaven for nido dried whole milk - can't stand the dried skimmed and bought some tins of whole when I was visiting DD in London in November, there is a large West Indian community where she lives so it is often on offer.)

I get whole long life milk (blue carton) by the box from Morrisons at Illingworth (imo much nicer than Keighley Morrisons). To me, it doesn't have that peculiar long life taste. You can get it singly so worth a try. I use powdered milk to thicken up yoghurt when I'm making it. Just run out of the Marvel-lous and started on the value stuff. It seems OK for that purpose - maybe not for drinking.
Well I seem to have dug everyone else out but me :(. We have a quarried out parking area where I'm the only non 4 wheel drive (but I have winter tyres). Going to try to get my car out today as it is forecast more of the white stuff. In fact it's started now!

We had a community work party to clear our lane a couple of days back. One of those who didn't help later came out with 3 excuses - 1) she didn't know it was happening, 2) her husband was there and they are not getting on, 3) she wasn't too well anyway.
    One excuse would have done!
A bit like a kid who says the dog ate their homework but in any case there was an earthquake and the house fell down! :rotfl:

Agree about Keighley Morrisons, not keen myself - mind you having to pay to park and claim it back is always offputting. We will be going to Hull to visit DD soon and there are a couple of good Morries there, buy their dog meal so will probably stock up when we are there. I suppose my main problem since the move is getting used to not having 4 x Asda, 3 x Morries, 4 x Tesco extras a Sainsbugs and 4 0r 5 each of Aldi and Lidl within 10 miles (Oh forgot Waitrose) Good job I'm already used to keeping stores or I would be in total meltdown from the shock by now :rotfl:.

Anyway time to venture out for my walk (my joints just refuse to work at all if I don't keep up the gentle exercise):D

Heard from OH, he has got to work so we will get some money next week:T

Those tales of dandelion gathering has made me hungry...the villagers here gather young dandelions and all kinds of wild greens and eat them. Delicious they are and very nutritious. Tourists have been known to stare in horror at me demolishing a couple of bowls of what they imagine is spinach. After being washed the greens (HOrta) cooks in about a minute either stir fry or in a bit of boiling water...then a squeeze of lemon is added and a dollop of olive oil....its also eaten cold with cooked meats.

After much consideration I have applied for a couple of teaching jobs in Thailand and if I get accepted we will be putting the house up for rent fully furnished. Unfortunately I can only see things getting worse here with the greedy politicians and most of Europe is in the same state. Its only a matter of time before the bank runs start and the politicians help themselves to the last bit of savings you have put away for emergencies. The banks in Cyprus are still closed and they are saying maybe Thursday. I hope some of the people affected were preppers but I doubt it. Everyone is hiding their head in the sand.

I saw the poor animals dead in the snow on Sky news, this is going to bring food shortages along with the floods that will come after it melts and ruins the crops. Things are not looking good

I always have trouble working which way out and which way in, then there's the parking palaver and everyone looks so depressed.... On the plus side my clapped out banger looks like a Rolls Royce alongside some... :D

We were at local hospital this morning and the road goes over the moor. The snow is piled 5ft high at the side of the road and the girl who works in the bakers said it was drifting 12ft deep on her farm. They're out lambing in it too.
Thanks for that Zerohedge link tonsils - we were saying here the other day that obviously the Russians will have crooked politicians in their pocket who would give warning of this, or open a back door. As usual its the poor sods at the bottom of the pile who end up paying.
I'm getting a load of seeds and will try my hardest to grow some greens - Sainsbugs are asking £2 for three short trimmed leeks and 85p for a turnip the size of a tennis ball!

I've thought about this and I have to fess up that if I was 'on the inside' and saw what what coming, I would probably warn my mates. As well as try to safeguard my own cash. :(
Meanwhile, just in, the chairman of Bank of Cyprus has resigned

And our friend Dijsselbloem (try saying that when you've had a few :rotfl: ) has denied saying that Cyprus would be a model for future bail outs.

TPTB breathed again when Dieselbloom was told to shut up. Until....

12.10 Maybe the Cyprus bail-out is a template, after all. The European Commission has given the markets another shake by saying large depositors could be "bailed in" (i.e. their savings could be raided) for future bank rescues. Speaking at a press briefing, Commission spokeswoman Chantal Hughes said:
In the Commission's proposal, which is under discussion, it is not excluded that deposits over €100,000 could be instruments eligible for bail-in.
    It is a possibility.

It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
