Good idea lynn about the veggies, I ask the local grocers for my dads rabbits.

Well all I know is, we've just moved house so my neighbours must think I'm mad as I keep shopping from the garage. My kitchen is tiny and have no storage so its in there for now.
Also I never fully realised how nice it is to have a gas fire. In the old house we were baltic here its so warm.

Please could I also have the recipe for the custard lynn, sounds wondeful.

Oh and GQ you would be proud, i beat an argument with OH so i could keep my food hoard. We literally had about 40 tins of tomatoes, 20 tins of chick peas. Let's just say were of toms now:o. That's now not counting the many kilos of flour and lentils

The zombies will die out long before were finished in our house lol

Thanks for that, but I don't drive and so rely on the 24/7 Asda that's just a ten minute walk away (we live on the edge of town), and which put all the independent greengrocers and butchers etc within almost two miles out of business long before we ever moved in. Our local high street has one bakery, but other than that it's pretty much all estate agents and take-away shops now :(

what about asking the takeaway shops if they have any salad/ veg scraps for the guinnea pigs?

Can you grow any salad greens in pots to feed them in the summer/ autumn? You could grow them for you and give the GP the waste?

Oh ida just thought, I know this sounds weird but if have ny fields near you you could dandelions and things for your pigs. We used tyobthis for ours and also picked them from neighbours garden and the allotments. People were glad to be rid of them and have a nice weed free garden at the same time.
  • Thanks GP it's on page 380 and it's post no7585 for anyone wanting another look at the custard recipe, I'm glad it tastes OK to someone else too!!!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.

We do grow a wee bit of spinach in a couple of big pots on the patio through the summer, but it's not really been warm enough to get any going yet.

I don't use any of the take-aways on the high street, so I don't have any kind of relationship with the owners and so I'd feel awkward asking for leftovers from businesses that I don't support. Anyway, from what I've heard of the food on offer, I wouldn't be too surprised to find out that they think guinea pigs are just as much ingredients as what salad items are :)

:D Thanks, Greying. Have copied that into Word and snatched into safe-keeping.

Beginning to wish I hadn't started this Full Scan, seems to be taking an eon and I really should start chillaxing before beddy-byes.

kezlou, nice to 'see' you again. My tinned tommie stash is decreasing (haven't added to it for over a year). Well, that's slightly dishonest because I did purchase some cartons of passata at Liddly a couple of weeks ago. How neat, I thought, even more grub per square inch.

My fantabulous mum has made 2 more storage trollies for the underbed rolling larder, to replace to originals which were Argussy ones and really not intended to hold 40 cans at a time.

I'll be swopping them out later this week. The old trollies will go to the bruv and if they don't suit his needs, to the c.s. Only paid £3 the pair at a bootsale so can't grumble.

The underbed trollies, in case anyone wants a recipe are made from scrap materials and sets of £1 caster wheels from Pooondland. It's a simple matter of finding a piece of unwanted board (MDF or something chipboardy), adding an edge to stop the tins sliding off (bits of battening mostly, screwed down) and then putting the casters on underneath. If the board is too thin to take the screws, the board has blocks of wood glued & screwed underneath and the casters screw to them.

Final touch is a very strong screw-eye screwed horizonatally into the edge, which means that the trollies on the far side of the bed can be hooked with the pice of wood with a large cuphook on its end and dragged into reach.

Oh, and each trolley had a piece of masking tape with a letter on it. Corresonds with notes in the inventory books so I don't have to hoik the wrong trolley out to get stuff (due to smallness of bedroom trollies are only accessible from one side of the bed). And I stick sticky-back plastic (£1 a roll from Pland) over the surface as the boards are repurposed and a bit tatty and because I like it.

All this eccentricity hides behind a valance. My home looks almost normal.............:rotfl:Shame about the occupant.

Cheapskate, I adore torches. I understand where you're coming from. I feel the urge to buy another SAK too. Or maybe another kind of pocket knife. Trouble is, the useful stuff is illegal these days, even Mum has stopped carrying her Silver Hawk lock knife in her handbag.

Eureka, scan finished, not before pooter gave me the heebie-jeebies by making some Funny Noises. Better turn the beast off before summat explodes. Til termorrer, youse lot.

We do this too, but the dandelions round our way haven't started to flourish yet. Pickings are quite rich during the spring and summer, but not at the moment. They're all like little tiny bunches of serrated grass blades. I've even resorted to buying a dried bag of them from the massive pet place just up the road from Asda, but I kind of resent paying three quid a throw for something I can usually pick by the handful for nothing on the way back from collecting my daughter from school. Dried dandelions are definitely one piggy treat that won't be appearing on the menu very often :)
