    Thanks Mardatha

I'm a Scottish lassie by birth living in England and no bu&&er is taking me to the edge, I was considering turning the back garden into an oasis of frugal greenery, will go and do a mooch round there tommorow and set my plans in motion..

Ahem I did clear the ex twits garden shed out one day before I left so have the basics to dig weed and grow, plus spent many a happy childhood day at my grandads side in his garden and allotment in a wee mining village in Lanarkshire....my grannies veggie soup was to die for...they managed, miners wages twelve:eek: kids and all my aunty and uncles looked well on it.

Recent posts saying we are going back to basics is true in my opinion, thank goodness I have my families backbone in me....it's made of iron...

Now where is that basic gardening book I had.......kale turnips carrots oh happy days

What I can't understand is why no political parties are shouting in support of the ordinary people. The Oppostion isn't uttering a cheep, the Lib Dems aren't uttering a cheep, nobody cares about us.

Well I have been digging the veg garden over and depositing well rotted mixed horse & chicken poo everywhere! Round all the fruit trees & bushes, strawberry patch, raspberries and three raised beds. Very helpful to have a tractor and loader!! although I stink to high heaven!!:rotfl:

I have managed to buy a lovely china/glass paraffin lamp off E*bay, made a cheeky offer and got it for £7.50 delivered. I have made another cheeky offer on another pair of lamps with the glass chimneys and from what I can see perfectly good wicks. I am still prepping sneakiliy so the lamps will not look out of place in my farmhouse, just say they ornaments!!

Will look for paraffin locally tomorrow! Keep prepping! I'm scaring myself reading After Light just after reading Last Light! Once I have finished it let me know if anyone wants it!

Thats the spirit NSGR, dig up the lawn and plant anything you can find - thats my idea this year. When you think a bag of salad is at least a quid but you can get a pack of cut and come again salad that will last you months for about 50p (conservative estimate) it will also keep your spirits up. Every £1 you save stays in your pocket and means you can eat well for less.

I got 4 packs of veg seeds for 99p today and am going to plant as many as I can then I can dehydrate or freeze the crops. I already have lots of other leftover seeds and nothing to lose.

Gaunyersell hen :D - UP THE REVOLUTION :rotfl::rotfl:
I grew up in a mining village in Midlothian.
...but please please don't mention that green stuff
  • I have always thought if all the disadvantaged voted, got off there bums and actually used the vote they have the right to use ( well at the moment) and the unemployed, the pensioners etc en masse to show for once we want to be listened to...but in my area the turnout for any voting day is about 38% if the other non voting 62% got there act together maybe we would be noticed.

Maybe I should stand for government....by god there would be he'll to pay lol

The first thing I did re prepping was to get a stash of porridge and lentils and stock cubes. Veg was cheap then (not any more!) I thought that's 2 meals covered, breakfast and HM soup for dinner. Also porridge makes nice nibbley stuff like flapjacks and hobnobs.
So this year I'm planting more leeks, mine were lovely last year- and they will keep in the ground until you want them. Plant some tatties and onions as well, and there you have soup.
