Not quite ready here - down to our last 4 tins of baked bins - aaargh! Well, I suppose that means we won't be contributing much to global warming for the next few weeks. And I'm not short of dried beans, tinned toms & spices so can make my own if desperate; we have an open fire & several other ways of cooking even if the gas can't get through. Panicking slightly about spuds; I'm down to quarter of a sack, which may sound a fair amount but won't last the 6 of us very long. But as it happens I'm booked to give the lady who owns our local farm shop a spinning tutorial next Tuesday so I'll cross my fingers that I'll be able to get there & get another sack in then. There's plenty of rice, pasta, bulgur wheat & other grains to see us through if not.

You can definately feel the change in temperature today Brrrrrr.
I have a few gaps in our supplies so planning a jaunt out later this afternoon to stock up. Got lots of sensible things like beans and tom's but no sweeties or crisps:eek:.
Off today so can actually see the garden in daylight so need to check the kindling and wood supply too.

Won't we look a stylish bunch in our prepping bus with our trapper hats, comfy boots and safety pins:D.

Right off to make some tea to keep me going, just noticed
our beloved scabby cat is sitting on top of the radiator giving me the eye to ensure I don't turn the heating down:rotfl:.
    Take care all

It isn't that unusual for it to snow in Jerusalem, Particularly higher up.

  • Well it happened ages ago to four friends of mine. In a camper van just across the French/Spanish border, they were burgled in the night and not one of them were awakened. The next morning they were all whoosy and nauseous...you would have thought at least ONE would have woken up in a camper van? The only conclusion they could come to was that they were gassed or somehow aneathisised (sp?).
    Normal people worry me.

I am soaking some beans to cook and dehydrate later. They will cook very quickly once done so I will save fuel if we have to use alternatives.

Jo Jo I'm being migrated to ESA too and am waiting to see which group they put me and if I have to attend a medical(even though I sent in a letter from my Dr)also assuming they give me it and it doesn't go to appeal etc...

When Mum passed away five weeks later I got a letter to tell me my benefits had stopped and housing benefit and I was in arrears.

It was a shock and a big worry and even at my age I cried and was scared. It was a mistake in the end. So something similar to your situation. Thankfully it was put right very quickly and it helped having the backing of CAB.

I'm expecting trouble again and soon but keeping my fingers crossed. That's all you can do...I feel aprehensive today and lately when I feel this way(coincidence I know)something bad happens...so perhaps it is to do with this.

I'll find out soon enough. Hope that I am wrong...

We've had a tiny bit of sleet this morning but no snow yet not even on the hills. I don't think we are forecast any until Monday. I have to go to a funeral on Monday morning so hope it holds off until after then .

We are stocked up-I got more mik and bread flour this morning and some stewing beef which I shall freeze. We might run out of fresh fruit and veg by the middle of next week if I can't get to the shops but we have both canned and frozen fruit amd veg.

I went to the library this morning and have lots of knitting to do so shouldn't get bored if we are snowed in. I don't mind the snow too much it's the icy pavements that scare me.

I've stocked up on cabbage which is also quite a good keeper for a couple of weeks especially if kept in one of the Lakeland green foodsaver bags. I don't find them so good for root veg, funnily enough. Carrots, I find, keep better in a paper carrier bag (got plenty of those thanks to DD2's Primarni habit) in a cool place like the garage.

(Unfortunately I think we have uninvited visitors in the garage. Better get a Mars bar for baiting mousetraps. Or kidnap one of the neighbourhood cats. There's one local feline that likes to sit on the bonnet of the car when it's nice and warm and was always sneaking into the garage until DH scared it away so often it decided not to include us on his rounds. Could do with him now)

Lemons are also another good thing to stock up on, as they keep quite well and are useful for hot drinks if colds/flu hit, and can be used to make all sorts of puds and cakes if (look away now, Mardatha, this might be too traumatic for you to contemplate)you run out of sweeties
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Cold damp and miserable here today. I have stocked up on some extra veg and milk and the tin cupboard is bursting. 'Pot luck' is always an interesting meal to look forward to if it gets bad :rotfl:
I have thrown some casserole beef, tomatoes, a left over packet of salsa, some peppers and onions into a pot and I am slow cooking it. It's spicy and will warm us up tonight. :)
There is always an apple crumble I can fish out of the freezer if we are still hungry. It's odd the cold always makes us eat more! :rotfl:
I did not pick up any sweets....I am feeling insecure!!!:rotfl:
