All hail my local Sue Ryder! It's forecast dropping temperatures and possible weekend snow in my part of Yorkshire so picked up a Regatta fleece, an M&S sweater and a (mens!) heavy wool zipped cardi/jacket with fake fur lining - all for around £13. This was the shop where I picked up some Doc Martens boots last year for under a tenner. Thankfully they cater for geriatric hippies like me :D.

I love his forecasts explicit but accurate...I described Corfu as the same this morning...Baltic......it is absolutely freezing! I have the clothes but its hard to cover your eyes and nose without walking into things...Greek streets are full of lethal hazards for the unwary. I had to wear my sunglasses to stop my eyes from watering from the cold. Even the doctor offered me a hot coffee to warm me up :T

The scariest thing for me is that they expect it to continue till February  Just waiting for the alternative weather forecast to come on...the other one only forecast for Athens which is no help at all when you are an eight hour drive away from there.... Going to take my glasses in tomorrow and do the shopping, if it doesn't snow, if there is no black ice on the road......and if my warm bed doesn't force me to stay in there till lunchtime when it warms up a bit.:rotfl:

:D Where does one find this Windy Wilson personage? I've never heard of them.

Been another very mild day, has been since Friday last. Been walking around in shirtsleeves again. Gonna be a heckuva shock to the system when it gets cold again.

2tonsils, trapper hats are all the rage at the mo in the UK, worn and sold all over the place. You can even get them in Primarche for £6. I've bought something fashionable.:p

In my defence, I had no idea that they were hip.......:rotfl:

Was in my Tosco and noticed that although the 29p Basics Sliced Peaches seem to be officially extinct, something pleasing had happened. They'd replaced the Basics with ones just shy of double the price and I wasn't a happy bunny but today they've reduced the Tosco brand peach halves (NOT the slices) to 22p a can, just under half yesterday's price. 10 may have fallen into my basket, as these things are wont to do.

Being preptastic, I'm absolutely OK about cutting something with my very own kitchen knife to save more'n half the price.

That Pinterest board has some interesting stuff, by golly, although a few places link though into sites with a worrying amount of firearms and mentions of patriots.* And I've just listened to a video on one which was all about stocking up on foodstuffs at the grocery but didn't hesitate to take sideswipes at liberals every other minute. Strange to think that is a term of abuse over there. Mind you, given what the LibDemCons have been facilitating in the past coupla years, mebbe they're right and I'm wrong.

Bless. They even mentioned Communists. I was :rotfl:Some stuff on the interweb just doesn't travel internationally very well.

just wrote a reallylong post and lost it so now I am really grumpy.

it basically summed up my fears of not having an open fire anymore if we move to a new build.

    grrrrr.

so, yeah. how do i manage future preps with no indoor heat or cooking source (we have a multifuel open fire at the mo)

hope you're all well and looking forward to the snow! eep!

    that reminds me of asparagus,
upon toileting the most foul odours appeared, often quite quickly, which appearantly has to do with ones genetics, you either have the stinky aspargus pee gene or not, it appears now that i do
apparently it's two fold (four variations?) - you either have the stink gene or not AND you can either smell it or not! i cant remember where I saw that but it was on a TV prog something like embarrassing bodies :o

The tinned peaches are around a euro a can here but I still buy them...I love them with a couple of tablespoons of Greek yogurt on or whisked into a protein shake they are lovely. I can only buy the halves and not the slices lol

Yes , some of the prepping threads are a bit over the top...looking at some of the carp food they are hoarding they will die of indigestion long before anything else kills them. I wonder how many have long lasting stocks of Gaviscon or indigestion remedies?

I heard a scary story from two different reliable sources here yesterday. It seems in the North of the island (where most of the break ins have been) someone broke into a house while the family were sleeping and used some kind of gas to make them sleep through being robbed. Apparently there was a very young baby involved as well and the gas was used on the baby as well as the adults. It's very scary to think that things have got that bad here. I am now glad we have thought about protecting ourselves should we feel threatened and we have looked for weak spots in our home security and tightened it up.

I am going back to the self defense/kick boxing classes as soon as they start again.

i often read and like to keep up with you all, but i'm not sure if i've ever posted on this thread or not.
we've always known dandelions as wet the beds and as kids would never pick them because we didn't want to have any little accidents, lol.
on another note, i am furious with my DH. I have a tin of seeds, many of which have been collected and saved from heritage varieties...well i HAD a tin of seeds!!!! the dozy b^gger has been tidying the garage and they are nowhere to be found. I've searched, he's searched and he's said well i didn't see you buy any last year so they must be all gone.
which means i'll have to start all over again :'(
I really wanted to know which parsnips I did as they were the best i've ever grown...one parsnip fed 4 adults and 2 kids with christmas dinner!
I've already got my broad beans, garlic, onions and shallots in and the chard is still going strong from last year.

I can recommend sorrel as a nice tasty veg. comes back strong every year and is lovely in salads or just gently wilted as a side.

feeling the cold here in mancland tonight and sat with a blanket on my knee and dressing gown on over my clothes. the temperature has definitely dropped. like mar, i'm hoping for some lovely cold crisp mornings, frost and snow welcome. i'm fed up of grey drab nothingy type of weather.
