I would like to know if you would like me to carry on posting the weather predictions from my friends? I am not sure whether they are helping people or not. Please let me know, thanks.
I would also like you to keep posting them; I find them very helpful. I've been frantically stitching new curtains for our big conservatory all week and it feels warmer in there already - the old ones got recycled somehow in the massive purges this summer. It was one of those push-it-to-the-back-of-the-queue jobs that would probably not have been done in time, without you telling us there was cold weather on the way, and I'd have lost more houseplants and risked the cage birds suffering too. Forewarned is forearmed, as they say!
A 22lb turkey is NO problem; I have a cooker with one big oven and one very narrow little one. The narrow one gets used just about daily as it heats up in 10 minutes & given the right (oval or rectangular) pots & pans it's easy to produce a meal for 6 or 7, but the big oven generally only goes on once or twice a week, for the big roast on Sunday & for a big baking session at some point mid-week. I've done a 28lb turkey in there before now; believe me, with 3/4 young men, one active very-slightly older one, 2 active girls & me in the house, not to mention visitors, it didn't last long. I can do the trimmings in the little oven if I can't fit them in the big one. (2 year olds might be a bit harder - they do wriggle so!)
So you can see why I need a garage full of stores... what looks to most people like a stockpile, will only last us for a couple of weeks, if they're all home!

I saw the storm you mentioned 2T on the news this morning on the train on the way into work. Awful. Is it just me or are we getting more bad weather (storms etc)?

Plus as a gardener I can say without doubt that locally anyway, there has been a change in the timing of the seasons over the past 10 years. My local farmer - whose family goes back somewhat longer - also says this.0 -
I think we're very wise to prep and a lot more poor people will joining us as soon as they get dried out and back home after these floods.0

Thanks D&DD I'll check that out. Which channel is UK Preppers on? I think we could probably show them a thing or two.
Well my kinetic torch has finally bitten the dust. It got gradually dimmer and now won't light at all. The basket I made is now pride of place in the livingroom with my (dwindling) stock of tealights in it.
I won £10 last night on the lottery, my local B&M is having a 10% off sale tonight so I'm going to treat myself to some perfume (SITC) which is £2.99 before the discount and square nail clippers (1.99) as I can never square my nails off properly (but wondering now if large normal nail clippers would do the same job?).CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. Hi thanks for all the comments asking if we are okay. We are both fine, if tired as we hardly slept last night what with all the noise then running around in the dark with torches trying to find dripping water. The leak on the new roof (!) can be easily solved, luckily it's not often we get horizontal wind and rain that drives water under the tiles! All the drains are clear now in case we get more bad weather tonight.
We seem to be in a pattern of three or four days of horrendous storms then eight days of sunshine here. It's much milder than usual for the time of year. I am usually in a couple of jumpers and a coat by now. I did notice Lidl are selling ski thermals next week, so maybe they are expecting a cold spell with bitter winds like we got last year.
I noticed on the long range forecast that showed 7th December (when it showed the UK with snow and extreme cold) that we were listed around 6 degrees in the daytime. That is cold for us but if it gets to that it is usually dry and sunny. It's always reasonably warm if its raining!
The weather cleared enough to go to the shops for an hour just to restock a few bits and get out of the house for a while. The shops and roads were near empty. Saw two very big walls down due to the weight of the water from the land pushing them outwards. A few trees damaged and lots of rocks down from the sides of the mountain. The structural damage is mostly in the south of the island. The hot wind is back with us again so the floor is drying for now.
I am very pleased I warned some of the girls who live here what was coming as they were ready for the power cuts etc. Most of them have very small children and I worry about them living in the middle of nowhere up in the mountains. It seems the whirlwind here developed after we had the bad storm in the village. Although we are almost at the top of the mountain we have lots of people around us to help each other in an emergency situation.
Off to have a nap in case the storms come back tonight...I do hope they don't and we can sleep in peace!“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
