  • True BB - eventually. It could be highly inconvenient in the short term though

  • Why petal?, you can disagree with me as much as you want to, the more points of view put into the general debate and the more information the better, I'm NOT always right either. You carry on putting the different point of view from your angle and everyone else too, the more we know, the more we share, the stronger we are!

Farming will adapt, I don't think it will ever be back to the small units of family farms of the past, we have the factory farms and will have to work with them. Yes prices WILL inevitably be higher, but (I may not be right on this) I think prices are lower now than they were in the past for many things and we've gotten used to that. It WILL make many folks cross but hopefully more of our produce will be home produced which will be better for the planet, it will be the wonky stuff as well as the pretty ones, we will use ALL of it and perhaps the supermarkets throat grip on farmers in this country will be loosened to a sensible level and that will be good for all of us.

Stay in the debate BLUE DOGGY, we all have a voice, we're all part of the solution, Lyn xxx.

Quote <<Why on earth would they want to be associated with us when we're busy displaying our worst traits to the rest of the world>>

From what I have seen the EU at the moment can't wait for us to go which considering the amount of cash it receives is a little surprising;)

I too voted no to the common market in 1975, as I really didn't want to be in their 'gang' as Europe has done, over the 20th century, no end of damage to this country. That's not being a 'little englander ' its a fact

Racism is a disgusting trait shown by people who are both ignorant and vile, and I for one would never imagine that I or any of my contemporaries would think along those lines in our decision on how we voted.

By the way Mr Farage is not an elected member of the British Parliament so its highly unlikely that he will be in any government of this country thank goodness.

Like Mrs LW I found imposing of decimal system a little confusing, and I still use in my own home lbs & ozs when I am cooking and feet and inches when I am measuring.
I can also remember how prices became inflated with the change in the money system.

No doubt we will have a good few changes ahead of us, but as a country we must all work together to make them happen.

Divisiveness will help no one, and the journalist junk that is being perpetuated at the moment is tomorrows chip paper hopefully (I forgot we no longer have our chips wrapped in paper but put into plastic trays that will litter our green and pleasant land )

An enormous amount has changed in this country since the late 1950s ,some good, some perfectly awful. I have found that no matter what, the innate kindness of the British public hasn't changed though, no matter what colour of skin or religious outlook we are a fairly friendly lot on the whole, and are quite able to make our own minds up about things.

There are good and bad in all races and no one person or culture is perfect.

Ignore all the daft ranting and raving that's going on at the moment chums we are, unlike our politicians, 'in it together' and who knows what the future may bring .Probably in my case a wooden overcoat :) as there are less years in front of me than behind IYSWIM :)

P.S. I too was taught the no sentence should start with And,But or So, I was also taught my times tables which apparently isn't taught anymore How life has changed over the past 60+ years ;)
  • Not wishing to boast but....... I've just been picking on the garden plot and hot houses and have 2 courgettes, a nice cucumber, a good picking of climbing French beans, a sweetheart cabbage, 2 little gem lettuce hearts, a bowl of perfectly ripe purple loganberries and a couple of pounds of strawberries, poor things were very muddy due to all the rain while we were away but it's washed off and they are beautifully ripe and luscious!

Even on a tiny plot we could produce a great deal of fresh food, we're lucky enough to have 1/6th of an acre and we can supply much, we give quite a lot away to friends, family and neighbours too. It's only a thought but do we actually need lawns? a little plot, as in the wartime victory gardens might help the budget in times of higher prices?.....just thinking.....

That's good to know BB but I wouldn't like to rely on it in times of economic turbulence.
MrsLW, we have a reasonable lawn but if we had to I would dig it up for spuds without hesitating. I don't know how much this would help, but I would be interested in the views of the gardeners and allotmenteers here. I'm encouraging clover to grow in our lawn (as in, I let the grass grow longer to allow the clover to flower). My thinking is that clover is a nitrogen fixer so it should improve the soil fertility if we did have to use the ground for veg. Is that worth it do you think? (The other reason I let the clover grow is to encourage the bees which seem to like it).

Of course they want us out ASAP.

They're terrified other countries will follow the UK's lead, resulting in the end of the EU, and all their cushy jobs.

In a total SHTF/EOTWAWKI situation, you won't be able to rely on anything financial.

If the financial system did completely implode, even the money in your pocket would be valueless.

It saddens me the amount of vitriole that is about. Calling older people names and saying they are living in the past is wrong, they majority of the older ones have gone through far more change in their lives than any younger person will ever know.
The skills we have lost over the years is astonishing and now our society is completely focused on technology that for many they could not survive if we didn't have it. Reading another forum one day there was a thread about the senario of the ligths going out and it scared me, so many who would rather give up and die than have to learn to survive.
I try my best only to buy food from local business and am lucky enough to have a farm nearby selling raw milk and also a farm shop where they kill and butcher their own animals onsite. Most of my veg comes from allotment or a local veg shop.
