Thanks all for the concern. yes eletcricals are very concerning aren't they, genuine or not. I know have had problems with genuine and compatible. (And I never buy from china, not after the shock of seeing lead in childrens toys not so long ago, and no CE labels not to mention sweat shops) That said I have bought British goods, only to find out the people buying them bought them from china to sell on and save money urgh.!
Anyways charger sarga sorted. Just sorted out a huge bag of all sort of electical cables (6 usb to usb cables anyone..6?..ditto other style charger 28 in total?)
Found a spare acer charger in there from my old one that died. £25 saved, in better nick than my newer one. Goods do not seem to last as long these days .
Have a good evening. Happy preparing.Talk of dehydraters, hope one turns up at the bootfair tommorrow. I shall act coy and pretend not to be too excited, otherwise may get charged more.Compers challenge 27/70

I get so fed up with stuff being thrown together nowadays. For my rental flats, I always buy these bathroom fans.

They are rubbish though. I just had to replace one that has lasted all of six months. That replaced the previous one that lasted 35 years. Tonight I've even been looking at second hand extractor fans on Ebay, as they can't be any worse than new stuff you buy.0 -
Too many newly-made things, from electronics to clothing, are blown together from inferior materials and are an absolute pain in the arris.
A couple of years back, I bought at Mum's behest, some cotton sheets from JL, a reputable store and they weren't cheap.
Bygorry, I can see why they have sheets in packets, the quality was very poor and we won't be shopping there again for linen. Compare and contrast the old stuff you find in secondhand places sometimes, such as an unused set of white cotton Utility sheets we got a few years back......
It's wasteful of consumers' time and money and wasteful of the earth's resources and really gets my goat.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

It seems that the majority of people have no interest in the quality or durability of goods. Its not even the cheapest possible price that drives them. They will buy a top or dress to wear once or twice, a smartphone that will languish in a drawer 12 months later because there's a new version out, remodel their kitchen year because candy red has given way to sunshine yellow as the trendy colour to have (though actually using a kitchen is a foreign idea) A friend recently got some appliances from the tip which still had foam wrapping on the shelves, the plastic caps on the plugs and the oven had card tags tied to the shelves. This wasn't a demo kitchen from a kitchen fitters, but had come from a house.
The problem is that it leaves those of us who consider quality, durability and value for money competing for a diminishing supply of old stock (that the modern world sees as valueless so is likely to bin).0 -
That's the reason I go looking at boot fairs and in second hand/ charity shops as well as jumble sales, very often really good quality things are available at extremely small prices because the seller has got a new one that's the latest must have model. Our gain and their loss and it's amazing just what DOES turn up. I think one of my best finds was an AGA BEAN POT in matt black cast iron for 50p and they retail at more than £80 brand new. It really is a case of one mans discards are another mans treasure!0

About 18 years ago, I bought my gas stove from a CORGI-registered fitter who had a sideline in selling used gas stoves. We're talking at £200 each, fully warrantied, spotlessly clean and in immaculate condition.
I say selling not buying-and-selling quite deliberately. He used to fit new stoves for customers of several of the major high street chains - indeed, he took a couple of calls from the stores booking connections when I was talking to him in his shop. He told me that householders who had bought new appliances often just wanted the old ones taken away, and that there was nothing wrong with the ones they were replacing, it was a fashion thing, or they were moving into a new-build with installed appliances.
He pointed out a 6 burner stainless steel range he was offering for £600 used. Looked showroom perfect and he'd been paid to take it away.
More money than sense, was his cynical verdict.
My gas stove gets its annual safety check as part of the landlord's gas servicing and several engineers have remarked on how good it is. I dread the day it's condemned as I will struggle to match that quality new.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Does anyone own a vacuum sealer? I'm looking to use the dehydrator to process the majority of our surplus crops this year and I think the best way of ensuring no spoilage will be to vacuum pack the dehydrated produce in portions big enough for two but having read reviews of vacuum sealers it's a very variable picture as to which model is best suited to my needs. If you have one that works I'd really value input and model details, thanks muchly Lyn xxx.0

I have a bag sealer, but not a vacuum one.
Sorry.
You could check out the reviews on Amazon.0 -
Hi Lyn I don't own a sealer myself although it's on the list of things to investigate . There have been a fair number of times over the past few years dehydrating food has been debated ( you'll remember it yourself I'm sure ) I am fairly sure Kittie posted a lot on the subject and I think she and other people on the thread have sealers . I actually said goodbye and thanks to Kittie a few days ago on the widows thread as she has finally got her future mapped and is moving forward which is lovely to see . Her posts may also be partly on the fence . If you don't have any info on here , you'll be best searching the threads - that'll keep you out of trouble for some time :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Just picked up a 12 LED Lantern with Compass, from Home Bargains, for £1-99.
I'll try it out when it gets dark, and report later in the week.0
